"the rare Northern Soul scene can’t support a nearly-monthly all nighter any more"

That statement really hit me and I do understand it.

Maybe it's just me, but I do feel in the phases of the scene, we're coming towards the gradual end of one again..

That doesn't mean there won't be great events, more discoveries and so on - but overall moving from a peak into a consolidation stage as the scene does in its evolution.

A sad state of affairs when an iconic club like this, playing literalily the best Rare Soul in the country cant sustain a monthly night any more, because of lack of support, then we're f*cked, I am deffo going to have to revue my personal position after this shocking news, working abroad doesnt help with my personal support, but with half empty venues all over the country at best, Im sick of travelling for hours only to be disappointed, not by the musical content of where I choose to go, but the lack of support for quality events....what is wrong with people, I despair, I truly do.

Disappointed to say the least.

I do think that the extremely poor turnout for the last one was down to the heatwave we were in the middle of, and the fact that London in general and nearby Soho in particular was absolutely mobbed with apparently proud gay people. It was a one off.

What we now have, if you discount the slightly 'different' nights (caretaker, anniversary and Christmas party) is just 4 old style (not in content) 100 Club niters.

Gutted. May have to purchase pipe and slippers and start acting my age on Saturday nights.:(

Wasn't every six weeks or ao back in the 80s with time off in the summer?

if just a tenth if the retro oldies crowd supported the likes of the 100 club and Lifeline in the past then the rare/ upfront whatever you wanna call it nighters would be healthy.

I think 'time off in the summer' was something that happened everywhere, and it makes sense - Apart from people doing other things in the summer months, it helps keep people 'keen' (Less is more)

Also, we all have various reasons for not 'hitting it hard' as we used to (having young children, work etc)

I do hope that The 100 Club (the best club ever) has a second (or third or fourth) 'wind' - It's in the heart of London, so hopefully it has a good chance of a new generation gradually taking our place / and allowing us to visit in our old age just to absorb the new electric young atmosphere

It has to be said though - The 100 Club is still blo*dy good! And it does attract a good amount of young people. Ady is only being aware of the numbers through the door, and acting accordingly (This thinking should help matters)

All the best,

Len

All a bit ironic really as the acetates and discoveries aired now are some of the best Ive heard in the 30plus years Ive been going.

Always worth the walk past the Kings Hall and onto a train at Stoke station.

If we dont use it we lose it.

We will be heading south next month for our annual pre anniversary nighter , unfortunately we only make two visits a year, alas real life often gets in the way

As far as I can remember in the 8ts it was every 3 weeks all year and every 5 weeks in the summer cos Ady was playing cricket (not always in the middle of Oxford St ! Or did I imagine that !!)

Everything in life changes the 100 club allnighters are no different. Can you imagine the soul scene without it?. It would certainly be a lot poorer  nothing has come close to what it has done past or present long may this great event continue. On a personal note my wife and I are looking forward to next months event to which we will be making our fourth visit to the best allnighter ever.

Couldn't make the last gig due to a local event /weekender.

Definitely attending the next 100 club dates.

The high quality of music is like a "candle to a moth" , can't help but attend ....

On behalf of the Norwich crowd..  "Keep on going !"
