I think you refer to MARTINE GIRAULT, I have this tune (from "The Masters Rare Grooves" comp.), a good "lounge" groove IMHO. I likes a lot the gospel flavoured harmonies by The Reflections in the tune you have mentioned and particualry on his cover of "Three Steps From True Love" that I prefer than the one (also very good) by Billy Davis, Jnr. The mellow "Summer Madness" is jointly with "Funky Stuff" my two favorites by Kool & The Gang. And Roy Ayers is one of my all time heroes. The "last" (??) cover by "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (apart from the one by Incognito) I have is by UK Soul Society from their album "Smiling Faces" featuring Maceo Parker and Roy Ayers. Ramsey Lewis is another hero of mine from my teens since I purchased "Solar Wind" album with the great "Jamaican Marketplace". "Sun Goddes", "Don' It Feel good", "Salongo",... those fantastic fusion albums belongs to the "OST" of my life. We should to bought that The Ramsey lewis Trio was seminal in the fusion scene as there was so many spin-off acts who started with Rmsey as Young - Holt Unlimited, Maurice White, Cleveland Eaton,...

Yeah, I bought a french Big Cheese compilation LP in the 90's with that one on it, I loved the style of spacey jazz funk so much I hunted down all the original LPs (apart from one or two).

What stands out for me on "After the Rain" is the amazing drumming, I'm sure you've noticed as well being a breaks man.

I'd say I've got more LPs by Ramsey Lewis than any other artist (apart from maybe Herbie Hancock) He's the master of all styles of jazz and funk from the 60's to the 80's!

It's Frank's son, Steve Strazzeri who plays on 'After The Rain' and yeah he's a damn fine drummer as you mentioned.

Oh yeah,I think it's a killer performance ..one of my absolute favourite Funky Soul tracks.

'The Baby Huey Story' lp is a terrific record..such a talented artist and a protege of Curtis Mayfield no less...such a shame he threw his talent away to heroin and lost his life at the age of just 26.

The album was eventually released posthumously which is doubly sad.

If he had lived I reckon he could have been absolutely phenomenal.

what a waste.

"Spring Rain" was also the music for some spanish TV and Radio programs.

Great stuff and, as a Philly Soul lover as I am, I appreciate the Philly ones. I remember when I was aged 14 years - old and purchased my copy of "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" (first on k - 7, after on vynil) and "Old People" captivated me as a totally different Drell's song I have heard before: the "high energy" usual on "Can't Stop Dancing" or "Let's Groove" is not here, is a mid-tempo with a touch of mellow mood... the title track, "Trade Winds", "The Big Gangster" and this one were immediately favorites of mine... until present day! Executive Suite, Anthony White, Tapestry, Jackie Moore, Major Harris ones are also IMHO masterpieces of Philly Symphonic Soul. The one by Corner Boys & Friends I discovered much more recently in the "Philadelphia Roots" by Soul Jazz UK label 2 CD's. They are a songwriters / producers / artists team who have worked under different names in Detroit (Motown as Silent Majority, I think) and Philly (on Neptune and PIR as songwriters and Philly outside productions).

 

I lkes a lot the tunes by Brainstorm where the voice of Belita Woods (she was a solo act on Stax) is prominent as on "We're On Our Way Home". I have had also a very good track in a domestical k-7 by Ron Banks (from The Dramatics) and Belita Woods.

I dunno mate..no offence Pete but I love the fact that people post up their playlists, personally..some of this stuff is pure sonic gold.

One of the main reasons I joined Soul Source is because of the absolute wealth of knowledge that's openly shared on this forum and the potential of discovering music i've not heard about is the best thing I could want from my own point of view as I'm finding new things to listen to almost every time that I visit this site...

I think I know where you're coming from Pete, I personally think it's a great thread but somewhere the original posters question has been forgotten , the original question was what would you play and only needed the one reply per member but it has morphed into what did you play last night kinda of thread , no problem for me liking the new to me stuff that's been posted .

Hey Shufflin!

Don't stop adding to the thread on my account - as I said I'm just one opinion. Sometimes its good to keep things fresh and start new threads. Dave's long standing record of the day is good for posting records from the collection - that thread is kept fairly fresh as the rules say one record a day. Sometimes Dave does have to remind people.

But hey bro, keep on posting.

I think that some of the recent posts may have put some people off. The original question is if you were dj'ing for yourself, it doesn't state that you only have one turn. I listen to my records 2-3 nights per week. It is like asking you to name your top 10 (in most cases this will change on a daily, weekly or monthly basis) so i think that multiple posts are fine (plus i like to see what other people are listening to).

Its a nice tune.

Good choice with Calibro 35' there also btw...I really like some of their music and Record Kicks is a dope record label too ..The Third Coast Kings are a pretty decent band on there with a couple of nice releases which are also worth checking in my opinion.
