I have to say that nearly all of them have achieved less than set sale prices whether be dealer or private.

Does this not suggest to most here, that actually, prices in general whether set sale or not, are in regression and.....as is Tim's belief, this has gone practically unnoticed for the last 2 years?

I'd even go as far as to say that prices have been overinflated for a considerable time, affecting a considerable amount of tunes, whereas dealers such as Henry, for instance, have always displayed a level headed sensibility about valuations, and that's reflected in the more than fair prices he has and still does charge...i reckon he is on a parallel footing with what Tim is saying, except he's had this no nonsense approach for a long time.

A lot of the British rarities in particular.

Steve Aldo has gone for a lot more in the past. Two more on Manships auction yesterday Mary Love and Joan Regan CBS demo went for half of what they were fetching 12 months ago.

Perhaps the correction people have been predicting for the last 25 years is happening.

Isn't the Chevrons the second release after MMC? They're both from 1968 but the MMC is the local release? I had both and decided to sell the 'Independence' one on ebay. EX copy and I'm talking about 8 years ago, I only got £25 for it!!

The appearence of slowing down and possibly getting cheaper with certain 45s is maybe down to the abundance of records for sale at any one time,consider set sales,auctions,private,global,behind the scenes....absolutely hundreds and hundreds to go at!

Anyway who gives a shit really,if you want the record and it fits your budget,then have it! What other joy in life is there hey? 😂

I still buy original 45s but not nearly as many as I used to. Two reasons, some prices seemed to be getting ridiculous and I'm at an age where my ownership of these items will now be less than half the time I've actually been chasing them.

Sure, there may be a younger generation of buyers behind us, but I think the demand/supply ratio will significantly even out.

And what of the current crop of record dealers themselves? They won't be here forever either.

10 years about right too....everyone ( that is, those still alive to tell the tale ) will have sold up

A lot of records on auction are not great condition. That's why I would not bid.

I get a lot of pleasure just looking through my box of nice originals, as well as playing them. So I need them to look good as well as play good👍.

The prices will fall, apart from the very top rarities, as have the 1950's rock and roll/doo wop records. I didn't buy my records as a long term investment, so it's ok if the prices go down. It just means I can buy at a lower prices.

Example: Crown Four...seen a copy in sales, couple of days ago?. Tim had one at auction couple of months ago...went for 350...a hard record but, not particularly rare...but in his own words definitely a hard one to sell/move on...

I can count on one hand the records I have bought via auction. I refuse to get involved especially given the mentality some show when bidding be it the FOMO or the green eyed monster. Most buyers aren’t daft, the majority know the rarity, history etc of a record if they are serious about their hobby. The classics/top 500 will always fetch money especially with the pop up DJ and those with more money than sense.

And there are , as there has been from the very beginnings of the 'scene' , a number of folk who have substantially deeper pockets than the average punter , to whom the spending of what most would see as ridiculous amounts of money is inconsequential and who hoover up the big ticket items as a matter of course , because they can.

It's the same in every branch of collecting regardless of the subject matter.

Condition was always paramount to me. It makes a huge difference to the price achieved.

I would rather do without a record than have a knackered copy.

A mint copy, of a very rare and old 45, gives me immense pleasure. And therefore commands a premium.
