The so called "Chin Strokers" will be dribbling in a comfy chair. The Scooter Boys will be creating havoc on those 4 wheeled jobbies. The really good dancers will have wheels on their Zimmer frames.

We ain't gonna let it die! We won't be having sing alongs to "Daisy, Daisy" So what are we gonna be having communal sing-songs to?

1)They've got to be well known. 2) Easy to sing with your teeth out.

A True Story from the Mail a few weeks ago.......

'Blackpool Council have instructed Contractors to remove all Wooden Dance floors from it's 16 Community Centres and replace them with Carpets...... A Council spokeman said we have done a risk assessment and carpets would be much safer for the many groups which use our centres for indoor activities, in particular OAP dance classes'

So instead of taking Talc to a venue, we could all soon have to carry a Tub of 'Shake and Vac'......

This is a subject that we've often touched upon here in conversations of what the future holds, we're already arguing which city/state it's going to be...lol...there still be the odd argument over oldies versus newies, people waiting for the smarties to come round on the trolley, then the exclaimation 'I ain't heard this for f%#king years' then it to be repeated shortly afterwards because it's been forgotten that it was just played....the shuffle to the dance floor just as the track is finishing as it's taken so long to get there, the clued up soulies with the motorised wheelchairs with auto-clap, so you'll never mis-clap again & a spin facility.....music...here's a few

You may jest but when we were record hunting in Pittsburgh about 5 years ago we were listening to a fantastic 50's doo-wop/r&b show on the car radio. Half of the requests to it for obscure and rare tunes were from people in nursing and elderly care homes. Looks like you never lose the passion, so what you're saying aint far fetched !

"Chin Stroker"....so called due to habitual repetetive stroking of the chin, usually whilst trying to think of something new to say rather than repeating the same old, same old arguements. Prefers to sing solo. May also dribble.

i never realised until i opened up echoes today that mr searling is now

going round under the trade name 'searling consultancy'.

personally i find the idea of a 'soul consultant' absolutely fantastic, what

a great job! so i assume he won't mind us consulting him on the identity of

any cover-ups he or his friends may be playing, after all if you're paying

your fee you should expect results in return.

i have now decided that for the new year, i'm going to choose a similar

career path, so i am proud to announce the opening of-

set in 2 acres of landscape grounds offering luxurious accommodation:

the mason-dixon OLDSOUL nursing home for the chemically and aurally

challenged.

with a reputation for excellence each individual room will contain a

four-foot square of finest maple flooring, polished to perfection at 6 hour

intervals, automatic under-floor talcum powder dispenser, and built in wall

speakers set to a unique volume and tone level - sounding both tinny and

muffled at the same time, with a slight over-distortion. obscure soul

b-sides will be pumped out throughout the accomodation wing so that all

So that would be very different for the "Head Scratcher", characterised by lack of imagination, usually brought on from high exposure to Top 500, and having rejoined the scene after many years of absence. These poor things can usually be found muttering things like..."never heard this at Wigan", "don't know this, it's crap", and shouting "play something I know", backed up with requests from long gone all-nighter sessions, when he was lad. These bewildered types often fail to appreciate that things move on and "new" soul records have been played during their twenty or so years "break". Quite a few of them look to recover their long lost days by becoming DJs at local soul nights, where once again they can re-live their time, over, and over, and over.........

At least as i get older and my hips start to give way i may be able to have an attempt at doing some floor work. Will probably end up shuffling in an old leather chair, smelling of urine telling anyone who'd listen how i played nothing but oldies all the time, christ im doing that now.

Totally agree Toby, I've already asked a mate (who is a lot younger than me) if I pop my clogs at a venue to leave me until the lights go on, thats when I normally leave anyway, and also put my ash's into a bottle of talc...............enough said .
