Dave Moore
Fantastic weekend Thanks Albert & Dani, also Mardi friday´s night was superb. David. Agreed - 100%. Josep and Jose on Friday night at DeBop(?) club were really good. Well done guys it was one of the highlights of a busy weekend for me. Great to see young DJs 'at it', enjoying themselves while keeping a dancefloor heaving. Great sets. Other highlights for me.... Finally seeing The Teenagers strut their stuff live. Good job guys....see you in Hamburg next Spring if not before. Iu's sets I really enjoyed and Arthur's sort of mini Detroit set whether by fluke or design included some of my favourites from the city...Gambrells, Jimmy Delphs, and it was nice to see the Two Plus Two spinning on a Spanish turntable for the first time (I think?). Good to hook up with the UK contingent again and meet up with Hank, Yann etc again. We seem to bump into more folks in Europe now than on trips to the UK. Word is spreading.... Congrats to Dani and Albert. Lots of tired happy soulfans at 7.10am which is what it's all about. See ya next time. Edited October 14, 2008 by Dave Moore Link to comment
Maria O
Many thanks to Dani and Albert again - and everyone we met for the first time, plus lots of mates from the UK and Europe we were happy to see again (some nice surprises there!). The last few days were just fantastic! Such a beautiful city in parts and lots of social meals, drinks and soul music to enjoy over the last few days. Plus there was time to see the sea and sights by taxi for only a few euros. Weekends like this are the Olympics of the soul scene, both in terms of stamina and achieving world peace (lots of friendly people from everywhere gathered to enjoy themselves as fluid groups where the language barrier allowed). Without soul events every weekend, the Spanish young were so excited and enthusiastic, that it reminded me of something I once knew . I feel like I was missing out on something by overlooking the Spanish 60s scene before too. They danced to everything from stompers to midtempo to crossover (we knew they loved their 70s too) - and freely asked about records or made requests they knew you had - and they SMILE! It was such a pleasure to play there on Saturday night. After needing to rest and missing the warmup, I must also apologise for getting a bit too charged up before the niter (electrics have been known to go nuts around me when I'm too excited), as the microphone screached every time I put my finger near the level. Poor Dani had to be my extra pair of hands until I calmed down so I asked him to pick some of the dance competition tracks from my box for a real international joint effort ...while Iu and Arthur struggled to judge the winners on a packed dancefloor in only four songs, and drove a few women crazy trying - which made it even funnier . Karen blue-toothed lots of photos into my phone on the way back from the airport yesterday, so I hope to post them up or email them on after work tonight. She also has a short video of the Teenagers (soul band for part of Friday night) which will no doubt be be seen by many soulies during her future travels ...if she hasn't worn it out yet herself. Will get playlists up later too. m ps. The hardest part of the weekend was squeezing through the trap door for entry in the DJ booth. Bet lots will pay good money to come over next March and see Andy Dyson and Ady Pountain do this three times in one night Ask for Valencia Water when you go over (a refleshing blend of vodka, gin, orange juice and champagne ...and a spotaneous kick after) Link to comment

Kevinkent
I'll keep this short 'cos my laptop is busted and I've just borrowed a few minutes on this one. A big thanks to Dani and Albert for putting this weekend on! A first taste of the European soul scene for Pam and myself and we were impressed. It took me about 20 minutes to get accustomed to the youthfulness of it all, then couldn't help but smile and feel the enthusiasm that was all around. I didn't honestly expect much of "Al Supersonic and The Teenagers" but how wrong was I - they were truly exceptional !!! Of course, what really makes any weekender, is the crowd. So, no names for fear of missing someone out, but to all the new friends we made, thanks for a great time and we'll see you out and about soon I hope. For the Swiss guys, Hank, Thomas, Jazz, Raffu, Fu, et al, and anyone else that fancies their soul with cheese, chocolate and Alpine air..... see you on the 25th in Lucerne! Link to comment
