November 1, 200816 yr From The Northern Soul Of Dore volume 1+2 Full length version. Wasn`t this pressed up recently on a joe boy 45?
November 1, 200816 yr Author From Kent its on one of their LP's. The best known and fondly remembered of Dore soul output was cut in 1966. The song came to the label via its writer Lou Baretto, Lew Badell could remember little about of Rita other than she was Italian/American but he distinctly remembers Lou Barreto who also introduced him to Bob Relf . Barreto famously recorded Blowing My Mind To Pieces and Lew went on to cut the master with Bob himself the tantalisingly named Red Alert sadly unreleased and even more sadly eluding us. Bob Relf found fame as Bob & Earl and in peculiar Northern Soul coincidence Lew also recorded Bobby Day, the original Bob of Bob && Earl. Lew cut two versions of GWTW at the original session a full take and the 45 issue.

November 3, 200816 yr Author I found out that other version is not by Ian Levine its is nothing to do with him what soever it was mixed by the owner of the label Lew Badell and it is only included on a JoeBoy CD with some Ian Levine tracks. Record is now straight..
November 3, 200816 yr Author Pete I put a sound file up the other day of a third mix of this, thats what I was refering to in the last post.

November 3, 200816 yr where's this disco take? Proph posted it on the Levine thread - on one of the last few pages.
November 3, 200816 yr Proph posted it on the Levine thread - on one of the last few pages. can't see it. can you post it on this topic Tony?
November 5, 200816 yr Wasn`t this pressed up recently on a joe boy 45? This 7" is a sort of E.P I seem to remember with Rita & The Tiaras - Gone With The Wind (alt version) b/w The Superbs - On A Day When It's Raining, & The Vel-Vets - You Don't Really Know 'Till Its Over
November 5, 200816 yr Bit confused here ... Are we saying the Original full length unissued version is on the Horace LP, ??? If so, does anybody have the full details ?? I take it the REMIXED version is the Joe Boy CD "NS Of Dore Vol 1&2" Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk I have the Northern Soul Of Dore, Rare Masters Volumes 1 & 2 (Night Owl Music not Joe Boy) Side one has the 45 take, side two has the full length take, the one with extra verse etc. The remixed take with drums and the ice cream van tone as someone called it over the top isn't on either. Edited November 5, 200816 yr by chalky

Yes that spot on Mr C, but some other dodgy mixes on it must say.
November 5, 200816 yr Yes that spot on Mr C, but some other dodgy mixes on it must say. Yes, the alt take of Dr Love came on after, I'm afraid I had to stop the cd
November 5, 200816 yr Author Yes, the alt take of Dr Love came on after, I'm afraid I had to stop the cd Just listening to R&TT's Now who can I lean on when all my friends folks have gone and Like a pail on the roof are both extra and I think these parts make the song a little darker
November 5, 200816 yr Just listening to R&TT's Now who can I lean on when all my friends folks have gone and Like a pail on the roof are both extra and I think these parts make the song a little darker I thought exactly the same mate.
November 5, 200816 yr Just listening to R&TT's Now who can I lean on when all my friends folks have gone and Like a pail on the roof are both extra and I think these parts make the song a little darker the songs got everything you'd want in a Northern Soul record, lyrics, vocals and it's a great dancer.
November 5, 200816 yr Author £1000 + for the 45 but it now seems to short on the dance floor and I am always left wanting a bit more. A record I always thrilled & chilled to hear at Wigan and wanted then that Destiny version appeared, any one got a sound clip of that. Edited November 5, 200816 yr by Prophonics 2029

Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk Sure is Mick. It's called Sun, Surf & Soul - 14 Dore West Coast Wonders. Issued on Ady's Horace's lable 1994. Interestingly there's no mention of it being a different version on the sleeve notes, although they are pretty brief.

Anyone want a destiny copy on pic sleeve (unplayed) £11.50 inc p/p (uk). Pm me
November 5, 200816 yr Just listening to R&TT's Now who can I lean on when all my friends folks have gone and Like a pail on the roof are both extra and I think these parts make the song a little darker Altho' I love R&T I was getting a bit tired of hearing it. This version has just shot it back up there! Superb, and agree, much darker and more pain-ridden. Awesome!

November 5, 200816 yr Author Anyone want a destiny copy on pic sleeve (unplayed) £11.50 inc p/p (uk). Pm me 11.50 think I had a copy of it for 45p back in the day dodge UK version like that on a magic carpet ride . Whoozit by not Rita is it.
November 5, 200816 yr 11.50 think I had a copy of it for 45p back in the day dodge UK version like that on a magic carpet ride . Whoozit by not Rita is it. The Destiny release was the proper version by Rita & Tiaras , but badly mastered, it played off centre and sounded really bad. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
November 10, 200816 yr The Destiny release was the proper version by Rita & Tiaras , but badly mastered, it played off centre and sounded really bad. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk Mine seems ok
November 10, 200816 yr The Joe Boy release of the extended version is on CD only, not Joe Boy seven. Glenn from Joe Boy cut me a promo carver on it when the label had rights to Dore and it is massive at Soulvation, it makes the Dore original seem too short! Glenn was recently contacted out of the blue by Lou Barretto who was after info on "Gone With The Wind Is My Love" and was completely unaware that the record had a following in the UK.He has identified Rita as Rita Graham who recorded for Tangerine? He is also adamant that one of The Tiaras is Linda Jones, as in THE Linda Jones. As she was tied up with New Jersey scene don't know how she would have featured on a LA recording session but that's what he says. And believe it or not he says he could not remember "Blowing My Mind To Pieces" by Bob Relf which Lou wrote and I always thought produced. Glenn had to send him an MP3 . As it's just about the best record ever it's a bit like Picasso forgetting he liked to do a bit of drawing!
November 10, 200816 yr I've got a Destiny copy and mine plays and sounds ok as well. Maybe it was just the one copy I played that was off (Think it was a white DJ), and "assumed" the rest were the same. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
November 10, 200816 yr Author I always though the original was press was off centre, I have never know a re-issuer to take that much care and centre the record for the best play yet??

I thought I read sometime ago that Lou didn't know who Rita was but was sure she was of Italian origin? Must be getting mixed up with someone else. I'll have a listen to both later.

I'll have a listen to both later. Just looked it up from the Dore Rare Masters Vol 1&2 sleeve notes. It was Lew Bedell who remembered little about Rita other than she was Italian/American.
November 11, 200816 yr Author They do sound like the same bird Mr C all be it one of doom and gloom, the other a happy old fruit in love with her mates bloke. A Ray Charles produced song as well.

I've not listened yet Mr T and don't doubt it really, just threw me a bit when "confirmed" as Rita Graham as sure I'd read differently. Will have a listen later.
November 11, 200816 yr Author A limited issue did, but I think it was the short version, a look a like. Not sure what's on the flip.

November 11, 200816 yr Rita Graham is the vocalist on GWTWIML for sure. Here is her reply...... Hi--Chalky--Wow! The Web never ceases to amaze me! My name is Rita Graham, and I am the vocalist on the 45rpm, 'Gone With The Wind Is My Love' that was written and produced by Lou Barreto. I am an African-American, and I am currently in the process of completing a Ray Charles Tribute CD titled, 'My Days With Ray', while I perform every week (since May, 1999) at Atlanta's famous SupperClub/ShowRoom, The Sambuca Jazz Cafe, as well as performing with various BigBands and in International Festivals. Thanks for the interest, and let me know if I can help in any way-- Regards, RG
November 11, 200816 yr Author Phookin L Mr C well done, not only have you found her but you have had an email back, better than that Mickey Moonshine scenario.
November 11, 200816 yr Phookin L Mr C well done, not only have you found her but you have had an email back, better than that Mickey Moonshine scenario. Wasn't too hard. Trying to get Rita to come on here, she's read the topic but couldn't see how to reply. She says she has a copy (albeit scratchy) that she's willing to sell.
November 11, 200816 yr Author She says she has a copy (albeit scratchy) that she's willing to sell. She should stick it up on her site, dose she know how much its worth. Also she has thousand of fans for this record alone, thousands Humm I wonder if its a different colour than the pale blue like the multi coloured one's. November 11, 200816 yr Rita Graham is the vocalist on GWTWIML for sure. Here is her reply...... fascinating stuff, the singer of GWTWIML is comunicating with us, (well, chalky really) i love this kind of stuff, to me this is what its all about, getting close to the people who made the songs we love
November 12, 200816 yr Good stuff Chalky and chums, Ace will set up a contract for her as we now own Dore. Unfortunately it won't be too big a deal as I think there's just the one 45, but we can put the long version on a UK 45 and she'll benefit from that. Great sleuthing! Edited November 12, 200816 yr by ady croasdell
November 12, 200816 yr Author I was thinking of a carver on that side but if its in the pipe line, I am sure I can wait. What a surprise it must be for Rita.
November 12, 200816 yr I asked Rita who the Tiaras were.... Hi There! Sorry, Chalky, I sang the lead vocal over the track, and I never met the Tiaras. I don't remember who Lou said they were--possibly Lou Barreto does (?) For years, the 'background vocals' were customarily recorded after the lead vocal was recorded, and most of the time I wasn't in the studio with the rest of the singers. Be well, Rita
November 12, 200816 yr Rita Graham is the vocalist on GWTWIML for sure. Here is her reply...... Wicked!
November 12, 200816 yr Author I asked Rita who the Tiaras were.... I was wondering about that if The Tiaras were an entity on their own, still could be thou.
November 12, 200816 yr I asked Rita who the Tiaras were.... Well Lou said Rita Graham was Rita from Rita & The Tiaras and she has confirmed ..and he says Linda Jones was one of the Tiaras.
November 17, 200816 yr I asked Rita who the Tiaras were.... I sent her a mail about Dore and contract etc through her site but haven't heard back. How did you contact her Chalky? Ady
