  1. This is my favourite Soul Junction release of the year
  2. I never bother when playing 45s. Just press play and fade it over 2 or 3 seconds later.
  3. I'm not sure about Syleena Johnson's new album although I haven't heard it in full yet. I'm kinda disappointed she's gone in that direction as I though her first three albums were fantastic. Mind you, that was a long time ago now. I haven't heard the Martha High, so will look out for that. The posthumous Sharon Jones is superb. I think it's quite a bad year for contemporary soul and have bought less new music than I have done for many a year. I have more enjoyed the old stuff that has come out for the first time like the Split Decision Band LP and the Super Disco Edits releases.
  4. Hi Mark, that question was directed at Scotters actually. I know you like the contemporary stuff too as I've been an avid listener of the Soul Sermon for years. It's great to have it back
  5. Do you only like new music that sounds old? I like that stuff too but also enjoy, new, new music . Recent albums from Ledisi, Will Downing and Kim Tibbs have been pretty good.
  6. It's got to be a 12". The 7" is not worth the bother
  7. When my son was about 3-4 years old he used to like: TC & The Bricklayers - Up and Down the Hill Al Green - I Can't Stop The Persuaders - It's a Thin Line....... Now he probably thinks they're rubbish and is much more into guitar bands like Catfish & The Bottlemen
  8. Another double pointer. Anita Baker & Babyface
  9. Isn't this LP only from the Eliminators? Quality
  10. Sunshine Anderson? Well this track was good
  11. There doesn't seem to be an reliable album review for new music anymore. I wouldn't rely on Soul Tracks as they recommend everything.
  12. Sam Smith is a pop singer. I have no idea where the soul connection came from. Plenty of good soul music around today if you know where to look. It's not as a good as it used to be, I grant you. Check out the new Crack of Dawn stuff.
  13. Didn't Chris King appear too?
  14. Good call Mickey. As do a lot of Jean Carne LP tracks. I was recently reminded about this one from her post Philly Intl days
  15. I've always loved this
  16. They already are Mark, I think. The good news, for me, is I don't think the record is particularly good anyway
  17. One of the great soul singers. Loads of fantastic material after the 60s
  18. One of the funniest items I've seen recently is a guy selling a 1980 reissue of Sweet Soul Music and adding his Ebay link
  19. You can pick this up a good price and it still sounds great today
  20. Daved commented on Roburt's article in Articles - Archives
RIP Jerry. I hope you get to do the 81 up there
  21. Pity it was just a snippet. I didn't want it to end. In fact I'd love to hear a full CD of demos with just the piano backing.
  22. I'd expect to be bored
  23. Good read, thanks for that. Some of my favourites listed there and there's so much more too.
  24. Sounds like it
