Accidents And Mishaps With Records
Similar thing happened to me, our dog put a canine shaped drill hole into a copy of Leevert Allison, unfortunately not through the label put the playing surface!

Herb And Doris Somebody Somewhere Needs You
In a word, no it isn't worth £300. Although saying that, if someone wants to give me £300 for mine I'd be willing to part with it .

Calling All Southern/south Coast Soulies
I don't travel, however when possible if I can visit family in Gloucester and can attend Soul-Fusion on the same weekend then I'm more than happy to do so. I only wish it would finish just an hour later, seems to finish too early. Other than that it's a fantastic evening out.

Calling All Southern/south Coast Soulies
Here's my twopenneth worth.. Off the top of my head I can think off numerous events that have been listed in events, there's Bournemouth Pier & Bournemouth Hotel, Bournemouth Uni, Bournemouth Railway Club (attempt in new venue), Ghetto Soul, The Crown (Southampton Soul Club), Southampton Alldayer, Toddy's Events in Eastleigh & Southampton (sorry can't remember name), That Soul Bar thing in Southampton Town Centre, Gosport Soul Club, Portsmouth Lido, Chichester (occasional soul do's), Portsmouth Modern Soul thingy, Bognor Regis FC, Brighton Allnighters, Patching (Sussex Soul Club), Conservative Club Southsea, Bournemouth Allnighters, not forgetting Farnborough, Bisley and others such as Bridgewater within a reasonable distance of the South Coast. Out of all those I'd only travel to Farnborough (reason being is a short 20 minute drive down the M3 for me) and I haven't even been there for getting on 2 years! My opinion is that the majority are either doing it for the so called kudos of saying they run their own event & can dj or they do it so they don't have to travel themselves. Between them all compare how many resident Dj's there are to guest Dj's, and even then the guest dj's seem to be from neighbouring events! This is only my opinion, but the problem is too many are afraid to state the bleedin' obvious. For what it's worth, I don't think there is a must attend event anymore or is there likely to be, sorry.

From my limited experiences one of the best examples of this would be Soul-Fusion in Gloucestershire.

The Bootleg Stigma
I have got quite a few boots from when I attended scooter runs in the 80's. I wouldn't sell them as they hold memories to me from that time, when I was younger. One that sticks in my mind is the Nightbeat EP, containing Tony Clarke - Landslide, Billy Butler - Right Track, Chubby Checker - At The Discotheque & Jimmy Soul Clark - Sweet Darlin'. Within the past few years I have obtained originals of all these, but I will not part with that EP for all the tea in China!

Are C.d's On The Way Out ?
Just back from deepest darkest Bracknell, where I spent a massive £19.99 in HMV on CD's. After Hours The Collection (all 3 CD's from the series) - 75 tracks from Atlantic/Atco/Loma/Reprise & Warner Bros was 1p short of a tenner! Added to this were 2 Trojan CD's (both containing 40 tracks) for a tenner. So let's do the maths, 155 tracks for less than £20, it would have been criminal to not to have bought them. So Cd's get a big thumbs up from me!

Wheelsville - (Label Of The Week)
Is there any chance of some soundclips or youtube links for some of these? I have no records on this label, but quite often see some on saleslists, but money being tight I'm very cautious when it comes to buying blind. The main problem being for some reason (and this might sound weird ), when looking at the label design of these I've assumed that they are very early 60's recordings (Charmaine - Young Girl type of sound), which I'm not a big fan of. So if any of you could assist, it would be appreciated thanks.

Run A Venue ? Do You Play Ovo?
Slightly off topic, but here goes... There have been a fair few posts on here in the past saying "vote with your feet". In other words if you're not happy with an event, don't return. Yes, you could speak with the promoter, but as always the other comments made are about the promoters right to have the music they like, whether that be rare/underplayed/oldies/crossover/latin and whatever other phrase you want to add, The promoters right to persist in the direction that they want to take, regardless of what the "so-called" punter wants, some of these promoters are held up to be the torch bearers and the way forward. Yet when on occasions these events close, there seems to be an out-pouring of grief that they've in someway failed, due to lack of numbers, it's the oldies crowd fault. Normally, because they are blinkered, not willing to listen to anything new, blah, blah, blah. Yet going back to the beginning again "vote with your feet." I don't really know what I'm attempting to say, but I'm just fed-up to the back teeth with these constant bl**dy ovo/boots threads. If as people keep saying " I know where boots are played, such & such event had a Dj playing boots, I know that dj doesn' own originals, etc" If as people imply these so-called villians should be ridiculed or exposed, then why don't you put up or shut up? Me personally, the only time I've gone upto the decks to have a look at a record, is to see what the tune is. As for what type of event I attend and the reasons for it, well that is my business and no-one elses! Whilst I'm having a rant, another issue I wish to take umbrage with. The stance some take with regards records on the Kent (Ace) label. It's ok to play say a 100 Club anniversary single of a previously unreleased track, but not ok to play a straight forward Kent release (for arguements sake - Melba Moores, Magic Touch). Yet Ady Croasdell has stated on this site that the 100 Club releases are in someway promotional copies and no dues are paid on them, yet dues are paid on the standard releases & CD's these help to promote (I apologise if I'm wrong on this point). So why should a dj who plays the Kent release (which they have bought new from a dealer) of say Tobi Lark, in which royalties are paid to the appropriate people (artist/writers/etc), be made out to be a phoney because he hasn't got an original piece of Topper vinyl spinning on the decks? Also many other great tracks released on the Kent label and royalties paid, yet I don't see too many on here willing to take pot-shots at Ady and others at ACE for undermining their scene with the re-issue of these records. No, because Ady (and others like him) have done great things for this scene, the magnificent Kent albums, 6T's allnighters and Cleethorpes weekenders to name, but 3. Anyway don't forget, Keep the Faith!

Run A Venue ? Do You Play Ovo?
Yet another OVO/Boots thread, in which yet again, nobody can name (or at least chooses not to name) an event that plays boots. If any of those that are against the playing of boots, why not take a picture (I'm assuming most have mobile phones with cameras) of the records in question on the decks at the time? They can then just expose them on here. That way it will kill 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Not only will it provide proof, but also it might quell some of the unsubstantiated claims that get posted on here from promoters claiming their venues are OVO. I can only speak for myself, but these endless topics about OVO and Boots have become somewhat tedious.

I second that.- The General State Of Our Beloved Soul Scene
I am one of those people that do not attend venues much, if at all. I still buy the odd record each month, but as for going out it's no longer really for me. My real true lifelong friends are not part of the soul scene, but at times have attended events with me. These friends have their own lives to lead and it is their company at events that I miss the most. Having the odd conversation with others who have the same or similar musical tastes is not the same thing. Also as I'm not a dancer (nor much of a drinker) , standing alone at the back of a room listening to records being spun, that I could listen to at home (either on vinyl/cd or even via the internet), is not much fun. Some could say I should make more of an effort to chat with people, but I've never been that sort of person, I like to observe people and get to know what sort of person they are before getting too friendly. Unfortunately I have now reached the point, where I want an easy life and choose to do what makes me (& my family) happy. I no longer care about things like trying to prove being part of something or being seen at the "in" event to try and be accepted. How I'll feel in the future? Who knows? I think the main thing is, as long as you're enjoying whatever it is you do, then keep on doing it!- Clara Hardy On Tuna
What is more interesting is that recently on both John Manships & Anglo American sites it's valued at £400! I paid about £90 for mine from the seller on Ebay (helpme2payforcollege or something like that), a couple of years back. - How Many Soulies/collectors Have All The 100 Club Singles From The Anniversarys?
