Empty Dancefloor - Dj Reactions
What you said was "every DJ worth his salt should be striving to fill the dance floor" What that results in, in my experience, is the said DJ's playing the same, safe records because they're afraid that something outside that bracket will clear the floor. "‹Thats the connection I was making, don't you think thats true?

Empty Dancefloor - Dj Reactions
Dance floors are for dancing on and its a dance based scene, there's nothing better than a packed floor and an atmosphere you can cut with a knife - agreed. BUT and here's the big but - nights out AREN'T for going out week after week, month after month and year after year to hear the SAME hammered to death records which is what happens in general. If you've got to do this to keep the floor full, count me out - its enough to bore you to death! I know the thread isn't exactly about this but this issue is at the heart of the debate! Only my humble opinion of course

How Big Was The Northern Soul Scene In The 70S ?
My first reaction was that it was big in mansfield in 74 when i started, every youth club played northern (alongside more mainstream stuff I should add) and there was a big contingent of older lads (& lasses) that went to the torch and early wigan. However at school there were 90 lads in my year and I can only think of two of us who were into it properly although most of the others would have known what it was and been exposed to it. Later when starting work and attending tech etc, again a small number of people in the groups I was in. By the time I started nighters in 78 the Mansfield crowd had diminished considerably, there were probably around 15-20 regular attendees. So to answer the original question - its difficult to quantify, it seemed big in my little world at the time but maybe not in the grand scheme of things…..
