  1. The finest of margins, but DB has slightly better atmosphere out on the dancefloor. Ed
  2. Franklin Street? First and hopefully the last time I hear it. Bring back Tim Tam and Peggy March, all is forgiven:) Ed
  3. This one? Nowt else on u tube... Really bad. Ed
  4. Cool flipside..:) Ed
  5. Just my luck...away on holiday... Hope it's packed and Ann gets the adulation deserved. Unique voice! So soulful.. Ed
  6. When someone passes, it's always sad, but sharing a great photo of them, if you have one, would be appreciated. Its amazing how we can remember a face more than a name. Sounds like Mark led a full life of keeping the faith, and was well loved and respected. RIP. Ed
  7. I heard this was getting plays again from other threads on here. A 50 pence special in 77 as I recall, when it was too old school at the time. Its great that dj's are digging deeper to get some old hits another chance. My favourite tune from the latter years at cleggy all dayers needs breaking out again. Infectious dancer. Ed
  8. And now we know some records are both Popcorn and Northern Soul at the same time. These must be 'crossover hybrids' listed for sale on confused.com Joking I am......... I wonder if the Popcorn scene have tunes played that are loved and loathed at the same time by punters, like on the Northern Soul scene? Ed
  9. Must be a lower rider collectable contender for this side? Ed
  10. Bub was hard to miss...RIP Sure he was a Wheel goer... It keeps raining followed by I love music, nobody else could get away with that! Ed
  11. Including the seventies stuff, there must have been as many great records discovered between 75 and 95 as there was between 63 and 75. I did say discovered, not made. As much as I was playing catch up when I joined the scene in late 75, you must have also been playing catch up in 95. Shoes and Yum Yum Tree were big records for Bub at Cleggy Wintergardens around 79. Ed
  12. DeVons and Merv Murphy stand out. Rest are average. Just being honest, and yes it is all about taste. Agree about James Wells. Levine is still toxic in many folks opinion. Tailor made and all that stuff. Used to be big at cleggy, not sure if this was big anywhere else or has had a revival : Ed
  13. A great day out for the pride of South Yorkshire. Richard Wood sealed his place in the history books at last. Sorry for the Shrews, but there's always next time. Ed
  14. Great vid! Big back in the day.. Was it a minor pop hit as well? Ed
  15. Obviously no point for you, but for me and maybe a few others, the reality is that great NEW discoveries are extremely rare today. Back in the day, fantastic records had a real short lifespan because of the abundance of choice. So, would anything discovered in the last few years, maybe covered up before then, be an 'a lister' back in the day. Its only a lighthearted debate, not a investigation:) Ed
  16. Love this Lou Pride. Did sound familiar, but I couldn't have named it. Clara Hardy? Superb. Is it because top new tunes being uncovered are such a rarity now that they get elevated status? Would they have stood out in 1974? Ed
  17. LA, Detroit, LV. Just to see the acts really. SITS for a piss up. Ed
  18. Can't think of many records in the last 42 years I've danced to more than IWGYT. RIP Ben...thanks for the memories. Ed
  19. Great for the Karaoke........... I could clear a room in seconds belting this out. Ed
  20. The Place and Windmill youth clubs were 75% northern soul, as were Warmsworth and Elmfield house. There was even a budget set from the youth leader to buy tracks. But the track I listed got all the punks up as well! Definitely some 'bigger boys' brought records back from the clubs and even guest dj'd Biggest rare track at the time was this; Ed
  21. Just had a flashback when talking about mad records and dancing, Windmill Youthy Conisbro...76/77 We all had a go at this: Ed
  22. I think I heard the JH version around 1978 at Cleggy WG. Was it discovered/played anywhere else much before then? I got the bootleg at the time because it was a top top tune........and still is. JH for me.........moody and soulful singing by a guy whose baby has been rumoured to be 'running around'.........and obviously he hopes she would 'never be that way'. Probably more in hope than expectation:) Ed
  23. Two monsters from summer 76 Ed
  24. Free pies and beer? That usually works, at least in Yorkshire. Good luck with the recruitment.. Ed
  25. I only went twice. Another planet compared to cleggy... Mohair jumpers and skin tight keks were in fashion at the time. Winkle picker hoofs. But let's face it, it's reputation was all about progression, right direction or not. The fashion was part of it....but the music was the real difference. Unrecognisable in comparison to anywhere else once the discoesque sound took over. New York Port Authority and Cleveland Eaton certainly made an impact on me. Individual dancing changed into a kind a group thing. On reflection happy days...get yourself together Yeah! Ed
