  1. This record has served its purpose.........fool me once etc. Gary Lewis and his fan daby dozi playboys filled the dancefloor's as well, but it's not in many folks top 15,000 now.......... Stick to the formula and you can't go wrong, stray a little and expect the unexpected. It was once estimated that there are 27,000 acceptable toon's to pick from and still be an 'ok kinda guy'......... Give or take a few, that's about 26,500 underplayed 'acceptable' toon's that would not cause grief!! Stick to the right side of town! Ed
  2. I hope this is a success.....and it goes national and international! If anybody can define why this scene is what it is.............spread the word..............and ensure it continues for years to come. Ed

Absolute floor packer at cleggy back in the day........... Ed
  5. The SWONS...........Cant help but love it. Ed

Is there another website/forum where all the 'USA soul artists' keep in touch or post conversations? As you have seen on here 'we cant get enough' of the stories and facts about the 60's 70's 80's (mainly) soul scene. Every so often a Legend like yourself joins in and its fantastic. Ed
  7. Sometimes the actual facts of a song/singer/label were not readily available at first exposure.........and eventually relegate it to 'blue eyed soul' and not for the 'purists' etc. Get smart girl probably falls into that trap. For me it was always the 75 year old Joanie Sommers and Don't Pity Me. This brand of liquor probably sums it up Ed
  8. Well I actually danced with her at the LA gig.....................(and her hubby).....................a real 'get smart girl' and overwhelmed by the occasion. Happy days. Ed
  9. No Problem.
  10. This might be of interest. Ed Samantha's was an upstairs venue above the Silver Blades Ice Skating Rink in Queens Road, Sheffield. A room about three times as long as was wide, it had a relatively small dance floor, with a bar at the far end and ample seating. As you climbed the stairs and entered the room, the decks were on your left, readily accessable for requests. No stage to climb up onto! Unfortunately, the decks were so close to the dance floor that any enthusiastic "stomping" resulted in the record jumping... 'Elusive' by Babe Ruth often caused problems! full article at https://raresoul.org.uk/hinckleysoulclub/samanthas.htm site note if going to reference stuff from other sites best if do it as a preview clip - so people can see if worth a visit and then post a link that way the original site, this one and the members/readers are all happy have edited the original post to follow this
  11. Cheers..........As they say 'it will never be over for me' and hopefully all of the NY soul lovers!
  12. I used to get emails off DJ Honky with event updates, but those have now stopped and the face book for dig deeper kind of ground to a halt last year. Would have loved to see Eula Cooper and some of the great acts they had on, but its not every week you can get to the big apple! Ed
  13. Did these events stop? The DJ honky thing in Brooklyn. Going over late August and hoped they were still on. Ed
  14. I think I have written this before on here about Nev, but its a good story so here goes...............Nev had just done his spot at the KGB Sheffield all nighter, and was putting all his records back in order when I happened to be passing. I said can I have a look through the boxes, and he very kindly said 'absolutely'. I remember one long box was full of UK 60s demos. It would be hard to put a collective value on them, but suffice to say it would be almost impossible to put together so many rare records today. I hope they went to a good home following his passing. RIP Nev, and thanks for the time and patience you showed. Ed
  15. I guess they are telling the truth..........nobody is going to make another 5000 pressings, so the original boot is limited! Fool/parted/money. Glad to see nowt changes much. Ed
  16. The guy is a genius in how he created multi tracks from one track. Very similar to Tony Hestor and Richard Wylie productions. 'I'm gone' ticks every northern soul box there is to tick. The fact that it did not sell, as always, enhanced its value. Ed
  17. Brilliant............This was a massive record in the mid seventies. Floor filler every time! Ed
  18. I did see this on an emi disc..........desperate times call for desperate measures........the folly of youth. Ed

A sad loss for his family and fans around the world. 'I've had it' an absolute dancers dream. His music will live on and be celebrated for a long time to come. Ed
  20. Agreed. Did not know it was never a single! Glad I kept the LP...... Ed
  21. I'm sure there are people 'in the know' who do know the truth..........but worst case scenario is this is not a bad tune at all. There lays the problem, why would it not have got a release at the time, even as a demo? The plot thickens as they say.
  22. Great tune....just reminded me of
  23. Soul in the Sun Tenerife. Horse and Groom Doncaster (Not chill out). A great big melting pot indeed. Ed
  24. It seems to me that at many 'general' Northern soul events that the musical spectrum has no boundary. So you could hear Wully Bully to Amy Winehouse and anything in between on the same night. One man's soul is another man's nightmare, so to speak. Is that 'the way it is' or have some people simply lost the plot. There have always been the odd 'WTF is that' kind of tune played, but there does not seem to be a mainstream genre anymore. In the (g)'olden days' obviously the intention was to play new rare soul discoveries and perhaps new great soul releases. Since that's not totally possible anymore, and hasn't been for a very long time, it seems the 'anything goes' policy is in firm control. Or is it just me being to fussy? Ed
