  1. I know that genre. That's Gospel played in Australia, isn't it?
  2. IMO, "upfront" is more describing a dj's attitude and eventually a venue's music policy. There's not one single record in the world I'd tag as "upfront".
  3. Yes, same as Sam & Dave. It sounded so familiar but couldn't make the link between CD and S&D Must have had a senior evening. I said I couldn't find anything about the track. Well, just a basic Google search away is a YT upload of it. It says "Demo Made In 1966 Recorded And Produced By PIERRE TUBBS". So I guess LP-only track.
  4. JM is just 100% pure quality. Vocals, production, backing, everything just perfect. That's probably why so many want a copy. basic formula: demand > supply -> $$$$$$$$
  5. Just picked up a copy of a early/mid 70s Carl Douglas LP on german Bellaphon. It features his UK recordings from the 60s and was obviously released t cash in on the success of "Kung-Fu fighting". Among the dross, the quality and the mediocre is a really stand-out track "You don't know "what I (know)". Very raw and simple stomper. I love it. Does anyone have more information about it? Did it come out on 7"?
  6. And me please....After Dave.
  7. About 15/16 years ago a local radio DJ asked me to play some Northern Soul in his predominantely Indie Rock show. After a few tunes he asked me live on air why I was listening to this kind of music, it's "dull and sends him to sleep". Now that was annoying....
  8. Ok, good point. BTW, it's Benji. With "j" like in "Jesus, he knows a lot about Northern Soul"
  9. So you think a radio DJ should go on playing tunes when the news are due to be aired? No matter what tune the DJ plays, he's obligated to fade out for the news. Any station. Any time.
  10. Bidding activity refers to the total number of bids. Not number of items one has placed bids on. Buyer in question has placed 12 bids on several items. 5 bids on TY. That means %41 bidding activity with you. And it's not unusal as you say.
  11. How long was a dj set at WC back then. Going by the tracklist of the tape an average dj set was maybe 30/40 mins?
  12. Don't know about Canada. But Stardust isn't legit in the rest of world. Period.
  13. I guess you`ll find out many of them are already featured on those dreaded Oldies CDs.
  14. I just played it again to make sure my ears aren't deceiving. It's definitely a re-recording. Maybe not an IL one. But definitely 80s or later. Even her voice sounds much more mature than on the original Stax LP. BTW, yes, mastering in general is great. So is the whole capsule.
  15. Eventually it arrived yesterday. Great package. starting playing through all CDs last night. I noticed some tracks are different mixes/takes. That's nice. But why is there at least one Ian Levine re-recording? Barbara Lewis - The stars with a synth backing? not good

  17. What I tried to say was, they issued it in the UK due to demand from the Northern scene. And obviously while they were at it issued it in other countries as well. Even though there wasn't any scene in those countries.

  21. Rhythm and tempo wise too fast for a beat ballad but the vocals are pure dramatic ballad (IMO). Ty Karin - All at once:
  22. LP take is one verse longer.
  23. Thanks! Forgot all about Aretha Franklin's take and I actually own this one Didn't know Lea Roberts before. Nice one. Mary Wheeler still the winner in the girls department for me. Back on topic, was this posted before? Peggy March - Losin' my touch. Pure drama beat ballad. I love it
  24. Sorry Derek, Sandra Lynn completely different song. Don Gardner on Sack is same as Mary Wheeler (and much better IMO)
  25. I guess that's the point. why not scanning a piece of a black label, say 1/8 inch x 1/8 inch? completely dark black. correct answers will flood in
