  3. richie pitts made a few solo records after leaving the fantastics including a cover of chairmen of the boards " every couples not a pair" written by General norman johnson on contempo and it is a superb SOUL ! record
  4. I for one am hoping that there will be lots and lots of young people converted to northern soul and that they want to purchase original vinyl at inflated prices otherwise i could be stuck with mine.
  5. i cant stop the rain David Ruffin i cant stand the rain Ann Peebles rainbow Gene Chandler
  6. What a record !. This has also been included in the "Heartstrings" topic. The orchestration, the lyrics and the vocals make this a very special record and one that has stood the test of time.
  7. I could never love another ; temptations ;written by roger Penzabene who also wrote other tear jerkers such as i wish it would rain/youre my everything and also the end of our road. His story and tragic demise somehow make the records more poignant.
  8. I spy for the f.b.i : Jamo Thomas

  17. Played at all the local discos early 70s but so soulful The Whispers . A mother for my children.
  18. "Handbags at Dawn" Risky title after what happened to Robbie Fowler! Could be a public apology coming
  19. i saw them tuesday at The Stables Milton keynes a superb although small venue of about 500 seats. it was packed with people paying £25 to stand, Seating £32.50. Jimmy James who i have seen on numerous occasions was brilliant. He did a mixture of his 70s hits and 60s motown. He did a fantastic version of the chi lites Homely girl! Ive complained before that he never does A Man Like Me or This Heart of Mine although he did do Come Softly To me.Ben E King full of charisma and the audience loved him however he is 74 and is starting to look his age . His voice is not what it was . The highlight was of course Stand By Me with everyone standing and singing. Some people around me had tears in their eyes singing along with a Legend! A brilliant night which i would not have missed. i would also add that the backing band were also superb. i would recommend anyone to go but be prepared that Ben E King is not what he was but then neither am i.
  20. Are they different ?
  21. i find it odd that it sold 70,000 on pink island yet when i look in boxes/lists/ebay there seems to be as many sue copies. it must have sold a lot of copies!
  22. Lovelace Watkins was very popular with our mums and dads in the early seventies. He has a record on fontana You cant stop love/ i apologise baby which has been fetching money recently.
  23. going off at a tangent. the best story ever relating to the soul scene has got to be Dave Mcaddens tale when he borrowed the Jades from Richard Searling when it was thought to be the only copy in the country. The full story is in Soul Galore issue 2. Although i never met Dave McCadden when speaking on the phone or corresponding with him he had a terrific sense of humour. His record reviews are the best ive read.
  24. Absolutley Brilliant. it makes you appreciate the records/lyrics even more. What a talent these guys had.
  25. UK Sue does it for me !
