  1. ...or was that Bari Track?
  2. The CD intro of the Uptights "Shy guy" has the lead in - and years ago I heard a tape of Alice Clark (I think) where she clearly says "How will I know when to come in?" - think Ady C may have that...
  3. Totally incorrect I'm afraid...
  4. Two more for contention - can't post scans or clips as I'm at work so if someone else can... Barbara Lewis - I'll make him love me (Atlantic)...close your eyes and you're back in that era when a number of tunes seemed to appeal to the girls on the dancefloor, and this would/should/could have fitted in beautifully. A lovely floater, this might not be quite right for today's scene but I love it. Can just imagine someone spinning this at Yate back in '78 and packing the floor. KoKo Taylor - Fire (Checker)...the other end of the spectrum, I can only think that the fact that it's a cheapie has stopped this being a monster, it's got everything. Frantic, uptempo, rasping vocals, drum rolls, breaks, manic sax break - what more could a stomper ask for? If you don't know this, search it out before you're too old to spin to it!
  5. ...a little more here...
  6. Sat here in the radio studio, couldn't speak for a minute and filled up when I read that!
  7. Perhaps he did...some time after the evil deed...
  8. To paraphrase Mr. Manship, according to the boot guide, it wa a classic case of sell the boot as an unknown original and rake in some dosh before anyone found a real one - not uncommon at tne time, remember those Mr. X lists?
  9. Personally, only ever seen issues Mark - not that counts for much...
  10. Wow! After 44 years of seeing that girl on the cover, we have a name...the wonders of the interwebbythingy... ! Excellent post BTW, the equivalent club in Cheltenham, the Blue Moon, was my haunt as a far-too-young kid, similar experiences no doubt, seeing Count Prince Miller working the crowd...
  11. Definitely got spins at St. Ives and Yate...
  12. Pretty sure I went to one at the Palais in 85 Mikey...
  13. This one goes on and on...Mr. Manships description of the runout and matrix stamp corresponds to the Constellation release - so did Bill Sheppard have a short run done from the original stampers?
  14. Very true, the McCoy credits on the boot were, I suppose, to give it some credibility, but yes it was a Paul Simon composition.
  15. Agreed...I love playing the Platters version of "Not my girl" - and why doesn't Maxine Browns "Torture" get more spins???
  16. Yes, definitely remember it getting plays back in 1966 in my local disco, mind you at that time the big pop tunes were played alongside the soul stuff...in fact I think my London issue came from that clubs collection...
  17. It uses the Constellation number, only with a B prefix...most odd! Mind you, a similar thing occurs with Frankie Beverly on Rouser, the catalogue number being the Fairmount issue!
  18. With you on that Pete, very well reasoned...
  19. ...and it finished at 225 poonds! My issue (which I don't think I'd played since 1975) has it as the A-side...pity about the sticker damage though...
  20. Makes sense looking at the two demo dates Sean, and Dave, the Shades of blue version was a 1966 US hit, from memory the UK release was early 1967 (??)
  21. IIRC TMG 748 has 720 crossed through in the runout...
  22. Thank goodness I'm not the only one who thinks that!
  23. Luckily the world hasn't gone completely mad Pete - picked up a minter for far far less than 70 on Saturday night!
  24. Excellent night, busy and a great relaxed vibe in all three rooms, I followed Jon in the main room and took a chance to play a few lesser spins (Leroy Taylor, Jimmy James etc..) before bringing the dance floor crew up to full speed for the arrival of Mr. Nige Brown (smiling as always!) and he didn't disappoint, the place was rocking, Neil finished off sometime after 1am and the floor was still packed, and as for the modern room, it was sardine time when Fish was on, sorry I didn't even get a chance to say hello, but loved that new Bah Samba sir! ...oh and the motown etc room seemed to be bubbling along nicely every time I stuck my head around the door. So once again another Soulfusion winner, well done Neil!
  25. Brilliant - I remember hearing that tale!
