  1. I heard last night that there are already pirate ' bootleg' copies of the new Northern Soul movie about .... quite an amusing little irony somewhere there, i think, considering the period in time this movie is about ?!? Comments, please !!
  2. Please pay attention, I didn't mean telling the boot from the original, i meant the alleged numbers / script difference in the run out groove, surely no-one would know this for sure unless they were present at the pressing plant in 1968, or whatever. Too many over confident people think they are the complete experts in everything they comment on, but everyone makes mistakes, and make the wrong call from time to time (Lew Kirton Carolinas boot in Tim Browns guide £200, for instance). Also, the Lou Rawls northern Capitol track only available on a LP, Tim, (I'd had it for several years on a US EP).
  3. How would anyone know this for sure 47 years after it came out ??
  4. Who actually remembers, or gives a flying f**k after all this time, all i know is, all Soul roads lead to Oxford St. London next Sat, for the annual 100 club anniversary Soul stomp / beer and Cider Tsunami (and also large glasses of lovely red wine, hopefully at £6 plus a glass, courtesy of Frank or Richard from Norwich).
  5. Just downing another bottle of Morrisons cider, Wychwood Hobgoblin ale, Spanish Brandy, and Shiraz to follow. some toones spinning - // Hang on - Gene Mcdaniels (Liberty) // In midnight hour - Reba Thomas / Van Lee Cruisers (Vantone) // Happy feeling - Brethren (Teen Town) // Since I lost the one I love - Impressions (ABC Paramount) // Let me love you - Bud Harper (Peacock) // The Hunch - Bobby Peterson Quintet (Top Rank Spain) // Gonna win you back - Contours (Motor City) // Lovin'is really my game - Brainstorm (UK Miracle) // We must be in love - 5 Stairsteps (Curtom) // Man's temptation - Clarence Mann (T&M) // See that girl - Jimmy Wilson (UK Decca) // Can't wait til tomorrow - Johnny Gill (White label 12") // Half stepping - Smooth and CO (UK Move) // Deeper - The Cheques (Heat wave)
  6. Think you're right, this time of year is not great for selling on Ebay, plus there is the significant distraction of the world cup / Wimbledon.
  7. Terrible news, brilliant Soul artist, the last of the Great Soul Men, RIP Bobby, you will be greatly missed.
  8. Yes, on both silver and gold label script, the later (silver) issue is the better one to get, it's got the great dancer flipside ' I can't rest'
  9. Didn't know Frank Wilson and Don Ray were being played in 1969 !
  10. Just seen another crazy sale on Ebay - Donald Lee Richardson on a dodgy White promo Soulville 45, with incorrect release number, £54 !!
  11. COMEDY SALE - Just seen a bootleg BITS 'N PIECES ' Keep on running away ' sell for £72 on the Bay, 22 bids, W H Y ? Obviously loads of Johnny come lately types out there without a clue - get wised up, lots and lots of great lesser known / forgotten / bargain Soul 45's out there on Ebay / Musicstacks, etc....and many on, wait for it, the Original US issue !!!
  12. Hi Derek , I too have been out digging, I only managed to find three worms, a rusty old can, and some old animal bones (all in my back garden). LOL. jez.
  13. Not many would beat ' Girl I love you ' / ' It rained 40 days and nights ' - Garland Green !

Def released as a UK Motown 45, TMG40757, blue/white design label, I have one, think it actually came out without a lot of people really noticing at the time, don't see many about at all ?
  16. Could well be, actually remember a mate buying a mint copy at a Peterborough record fair around 1990 for £1 !
  17. And why are so many ' Soul Collectors ' obsessed with getting 60's 45's on UK issues / Demos .... if a great (or not so great) track was recorded and released in Chicago, Detroit, or whatever, surely that is the truest and most original recording to obtain as a proper appreciation of top 60's Soul, on the 1st US release ?!?
  18. You would never have to spend a fortune to own either of these as original releases, D. Banks on US Revilot 1st press (actually the TRUE original) very cheap and quite plentiful on Ebay, and the Timi Yuro is found on the LP ' Something bad ' on UK Liberty, an original 60's item that comes up sometimes for an affordable sum (mine cost me £6 from a record fair).
  19. Had this 45 in mid to late 70's, i think it came from Soul bowl, mine was def a white label promo, wouldn't have been booted, no great demand at any time, surely ?
  20. Because we can, and we like to ... what other reason would come remotely close ?? love, Jez.
  21. Wife has gone out for the evening, so the Technics system is getting cranked up, helped by a very conservative !! dribbling of alcoholic beverages. Ross / M. Gaye - My mistake was to love you (Motown) Herbert Lacy - Give me / a chance (Georgia gar) Brad Lundy - I could never have another (UK Pyramid - is this rare?? Raymond Martin - Guilty of loving you (Composers) Serena Johnson - ALL work and no play (Big 2) Some lovely modern Northern and crossover spins there folks, and I must mention the drinks, Kingstone press classic Cider / Huber US Prem Beer / Isla Negra 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon / Bass No. 1 Pale Ale / Moorhouse Black Cat Ruby Ale .... Keep the Faittthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  22. What about ' I'll be doggone ' Marvin Gaye, absolutely fabulous Northern/ Motown sound, from one of the very best genius black male vocalists ever, fantastic enduring 60's soul !
