  5. I loved this book! I was born in 69, so was in 1st year secondary the year the casino closed, so Iโ€™ve heard a great many stories over the years about splits and falling outs, but that seems to be the fodder of Northern soul unfortunately, Richard Searing was on the whole better to leave all that out. If you look at most of the better books written by UK soul followers itโ€™s a patchwork, no one book can do it all... Richards book for me though sits right next to several others that are โ€˜essential readingโ€™! Mal
  6. And NZ Kapp always look the biz
  7. W&Gs sleeves always get the pulse going, they did different series obviously and a few designs on the imported music they put out...
  8. I think the USA one Benji.. hereโ€™s another NZ one, and i think I have Aussie ones also, quite cool offers on the flip side on flights!
  9. I need the following Australian sleeves if anybody has some to swap?? I have tons I can swap from a shop clearance in a small place in North NSW... festival Atlantic (Green/white) W&G custom / international series Astor Sue?? Never seen one they must exist? Unless it was festival that put them out... anybody know..? loads to swap, tell me what you need, got lots of major label 7ts USA sleeves too...not asking ยฃ5 quid for a sleeve like some uk sellers... mal
  10. Have an identical acetate on a wade Flemons 45, called slow down.... cost twenty odd quid wasnโ€™t much as it not northern or anything just an R&B recording mal

Not generally surprised at many of these prices now, but that really is as good as buying an air fair to Japan, smoking the ticket and attempting to get the bus...!
  12. We love da โ€˜old Skoolโ€™ Lol thank you Robb, Iโ€™ve said a few times to my wife I was born 15 years to late, she righty pointed out we would have never met if that was the case, but you wonder at what you missed, itโ€™s a rich past for us, and that is what this site is all about!! when you have a moment though, what was Sam Cooke like? good luck with the tax โ€˜Menโ€™ ! Best wishes ๐Ÿ™‚ malcolm
  13. Wow... I have a question about your time in the shop/s, Iโ€™m sure most on here will remember this kind of experience. when I really got into collecting House records about 87/88 we used to go to a shop called Don Christieโ€™s in Birmingham, Don was white but he was the main man for Reggae in the city and his shop the the place to go on a Sat morning, we went because he was astute and would always have a great box of the latest imports from Chicago Detroit, New York. We were the only white kids in that shop, and you had watch yourself a bit, you took your place on the long counter and he would play things while you went through the box he got from under the counter. You gestured if you wanted it, and they would throw the track to your way. It was an experience in its self, but Don took no shit of anybody and if we got comments because of our colour or choice of music, the person involved was out on the street!! One thing I miss in this โ€˜digitalโ€™ age is that interaction with other buyers like that, I met all kind of folk in there and other shops like it, you must have stories from LA and Chicago, Iโ€™d love to hear some of these if you are happy to share a few... Malcolm
  14. Itโ€™s an absolute blessing to have you on here Robb, having somebody who was actually buying a large percentage of these great 45s we all have and want in the US is totally invaluable to this site... But your a modest man, with a cast iron memory... not like me ! Iโ€™m right you actually shopped in the Dolphin record shop in LA? Malcolm
  15. Iโ€™m in Vienna for a few days. Wonder if folk know any good record shops that will stock the good stuff? Orig vinyl - and obviously Soul & R&B???
  16. Prosim:-) as the Czechโ€™s say... in Brno today, Czechโ€™s second city, and found a few more shops. But no Czech releases of soul records, lots of Jazz, no soul ๐Ÿ˜ž I did find an Indian Bombay / Ploydor copy of the Millie Jackson lp โ€˜Still caught upโ€... take that ๐Ÿ™‚ Malcolm
  17. Iโ€™d say thatโ€™s an Orig demo, spotted immediately... Itโ€™s just too good for an up to date boot, and itโ€™s not been done before.... Iโ€™d say original but the wax will determine demos are on vinyl, all the blue issues Iโ€™ve seen on styrene
  18. In Prague today on business trip, was going to ask the same of this fair city... nothing cooking Iโ€™m afraid, found one place and chatted to the owner regards companies that licensed black music back in the day, werenโ€™t that many... surprise surprise I did find this though, deffo shit but I just love the label ๐Ÿ™‚ good luck in Amsterdam ! Mal
  19. Here is the โ€˜Aussieโ€™ release of Beautiful day, often wondered where else it came out, other than the Uk. mal
  20. Cool... Iโ€™ll have a look
  21. Always bought of Covers 33, think they charge a tad more but with fee postage. dont know if they have sorted this but they were producing slightly oversized sleeves that would not quite fit into their 7 card sleeves, a real pain for those of us with OCD... outside of therthey are friendly and easy to deal with... ๐Ÿ™‚ i want green internal sleeves, anybody know where I can get those?
  22. One of the best things on Soul Source in ages, absolutely brilliant thread, thanks you guys for posting all this:-) watched all of Sebastian last night, you gotta love Susanna York! Strange film thought, kinda ipcress file ish.... but not... typical though of that time. Always thought I was born twenty years too late:/)
  23. Not so much a 45, but Lp of a 45... I was playing Garland Greens RCA Lp the other day and came across his version of "Let me be your Pacifier" written by Willard Burton, wonder if Willard wrote this for him / for that LP, then recorded his version which came out on Money as a 45... great song ๐Ÿ™‚
  24. found the Soul Brother release, it's Sharon Ridley - "Where Did You Learn To Make Love The Way You Do", very nice... but more interesting is I guess the first 7inch release of "Ain' t No Need" by Ralph Graham.
