Houston Miles On Ebay $18K
It's an poor record at a ridiculous price. Seller is living in a parallel universe.

Manships Auction Results ! What
Yep but us old timers got these records cheap. Just dug out my copy - hmm sounds right for today methinks - def playable at a niter. Lots of newer recruits out there and not too many copies on popsike compared with say 'laws of love' and their other harthon 45. Steve

Original Or Re-Issue (Aka Pressings) On Ebay
I know we are and I am not condoning it for one minute. Just saying it's always been there. Some people seem to think it's an ebay only phenomenon. Steve

Original Or Re-Issue (Aka Pressings) On Ebay
It's always been a case of "buyer beware". Even before Ebay. I remember as a kid buying an 'original' Sam & Kitty for £4 off an older lad at the Casino which was a lot in them days. Only to find i'd been sold an early boot.

Surely Some Mistake?

Papa Bear & The Cubs - You're So Fine (Sms) Value Please
Post # 8 Chalky - it talks utter tosh. Uncle Dearglove turned it up, and a few of us got it that week, including presumably Andy who played it at Sheridans ad John who covered it up. In truth I filed my copy away on the shelves so not laying any claims on it.

Papa Bear & The Cubs - You're So Fine (Sms) Value Please
I thought, in fact am pretty sure Dearlove was the first to turn this up. It was on his front page - for one week only. Love the way history is being re-written again

Nothing at all Ian, and I know your taste in music is amongst the broadest I know. I just don't 'get' the connection with R&R and C&W. For me soul started in the early 60s - Money, Chuck Jackson, etc, and northern sounds really around 64/5. It developed in part (but not exclusively) from R&B - but that doesn't mean I have to like R&B as someone on here implied yesterday. As it happens I do like some, have just got a minty London copy of "The Walk" for example - great song. But then again I also like Bull Moose Jackson "Big 10 inch" Kip Anderson, and a host of other not really soul R&B records. Undoubtebly Randy was to blame for putting me onto these types of records But all joking aside, I wouldn't want to hear them at a nighter. Anything before the mid 60s doesn't really fit my personal description of northern soul. At the other end whilst I like a bit of soulful house I don't think that either would fit into a niter environment well. Whilst I don't like R&R I do respect those that have kept the torch of that genre shining. Thing is those guys don't rate the records that have crossed over to the northern scene. Geeselad charitably described it as "tin pan alley", I think some of the genuine R&R guys wouldn't be quite so complimentary. I just sense that as we evolve, the types of sounds played at the venues will losen somewhat to be more of a 'bit of everything' whether that be northern, funky northern, xover, midtempo, kick ass uptempo, uplifting gospel and beyond. And whilst Peter S might fire off objections from behind his computer screen, as a self confessed "non attender", I am sure that his views will be drowned out for the most part by good quality music.

You just don't get it Pete. Personally, I actually like Northern Soul, rare soul, beat ballads, Deep Soul, Funk, Crossover, 70s, 80s, and some Y2k. I do not like C&W or R&R. I do hope that is clear enough for you, and no apologies at all if that don't fit with your blinkered definition of what I should like

Chuck Strong Doin' It Cause It Feels Good
Yes but the B side of Chuck Strong is pretty good too as I remmeber

Whats Next
Yes I went to them as well. Good night but a lot of stairs to climb Maybe a bit of all of the above keeps the scene interesting, although I personally could do without the R&R and C&W

John Manship Auction / Gwen & Ray
Hi Marc, I did play my copy a couple of times a couple of years ago, and it did get some dancefloor reaction, but not massive. Many people don't actually remember it. Talking of ebay were those ones on there definite originals? I have seen another trophy item on ebay twice in the last week - one original and a second I am not so sure but it did have "an original sleeve" and it went for a higher price than the def original....The SWONS

Hamilton Movement - She's Gone Look-Out 45 For Trade
Actually mentioning JT Rhythm, there is an absolutely FANTASTIC unissued version of this (not O C Tolbert) with great production......Just thought I'd throw that into the mix. Is Joey Irving the Belgium thing?

The Next Generation
And that is in a round about way (without referencing deep soul) kind of my point about "dead music". It's not so much about Rock N Roll, as other forms of soul music - I guarantee you I could take a box full of Sharpees, Al TNT Braggs and probably a host of other good artists- all talented acts in their own right, and put them for sale at 10p at a gig. I probably wouldn't sell a single record, I wonder whether these acts have unwittingly become the soul music equivelent of Des O Connor records are at car boot fairs?.... I also share the view that the legacy of the Brit scene with all its politics, nostalgia, harping on about Wigan still etc. is a deterrant for younger folks, and at least partly why they have their own nights.

Good, well I hope you have sold it now......Steve

The Next Generation
Jules, I think that is a fair call. But sometimes I wonder how deep the love really is versus it's a trendy bar playing different music.Mind you I guess the scene has always had it;s passing trade. Anyway I hope more youngsters discover some of the wonderful music that exists. It would be a real shame if the music died (as other popular music forms obstensively already have), with the generation that originally cherished it. Much of non northern soul music is already obstensively a dead music form now, so let's hope that the rest of it doesn't go the same way.

Ton Of Dynamite Original, What Was It Called?
Ian I know you know there are "different types of funky records LOL". Am talking about a different dance craze, the records aren't a million miles apart so probably can probably be categorised as being from the same "genre". Steve
