Tearra Still Loving Soul Junction - New 45
Press Release: Tearra “Just Loving You/Teeah-Louise You Happened To Me “ SJ558 Release Date: Monday 25th November 2024 Tearra’s “Just Loving You” on it’s original U.S Midtown label due to its quality and desirability continues to regularly achieve four figure sale prices on the rare occasion that a copy comes on to the open market. Soul Junction through a licensing deal with Emandolynn Music first reissued this modern soul anthem back in 2017 as part of a dual 45 package that included the previously unissued Delights track “Listen To Me Girl” with the limited 500 copy pressing run selling out in a matter of days. Since then, copies of that Soul Junction release have regularly sold for circa £60 a copy with sales enquiries still being received for either side of this 45 to this day. Therefore, we at Soul Junction have decided to fulfill this continued demand by reissuing “Just Loving You” for the second this time paired with Teeah-Louise’s “You Happened To Me” as the featured flipside. Tearra, real name Teeah-Louise a native of Mobile, Alabama was offered a recording contract by Philadelphian Record Producer/Label Owner Manny Campbell Jr during 1980. Campbell himself had relocated his Emandolynn Music operations from the city of Brotherly Love to Atlanta, Georgia some two years earlier. Campbell had planned to record a whole album on Teeah-Louise under the working title of “Great Love”. He firstly released a lead 45 single, the mid-tempo “You Happened To Me/Got To Keep You Mine” on his Coastal label logo with the artist credited as Teeah-Louise. Teeah’s fiancé didn’t share his future wife’s ambitions of a recording career and her prospective album project faltered and was never completed. Although as a further two tracks had been recorded this allowed a for second 45 release to follow “Ooh Let This Feeling (Last A Long, Long Time)” backed with the desirable “Just Loving You” these were released on the Midtown label, with Midtown by then being Coastal Records main record distributor. This second release was credited under the artist name of Tearra, due to Teah-Louise by now not wishing to use her real name. Both the Coastal and Midtown releases were only ever pressed in 500 promotional copies runs. Teeah-Louise left the recording business for good soon after her marriage. In addition, a later 12” Coastal Records single issued on the group ‘Tomorrows Wish’ featuring the song “My Love For You” which shares the same backing track as Tearra’s “Just Loving You”. All four of Teeah-Louise’s songs were wrote by Manny Campbell, with Manny sharing the songwriting credits on “Ooh Let This Feeling (Last A Long, Long Time)” with his cousin, Keith “Toppie” Hill notably a former group member of the aforementioned ‘Delights’. Podcast: Northern Soul Time - Charly Records Premiers 31st Oct 2024
If you have the slightest interest in the heritage and history of the scene then this should interest you. Great to hear the memories of someone like David Nathan, one of the pioneers of the soul scene in the UK and of course those of Kev's as well, very interesting. I look forward to future episodes.

Johnnie Mae Matthews - Mama's Gonna Stop You (C-U)
As far as Tim could remember it isn't Johnnie, her daughter or probably nothing to do with her, maybe an acetate that came her way. He may well tell the tale how it fell on him upon opening a cupboard.

Johnnie Mae Matthews - Mama's Gonna Stop You (C-U)
It was hitsville Chalky who edited one of the files in circulation, taking out the edits to protect the track to make it sound better, thats what Pete Smith played originally. Think since then a full file appeared and subsequently cuts were made and by the looks of itv are still being made. The acetate came from Johnnie Mae Matthews

Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
Sandra Richardson was definitely one of those done.

Last night and today

Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
It’s a big gamble to take to hoover up copies for what is a sizeable outlay and hope to make a profit. It’s just odd that these few titles are appearing with regularity from the same sellers.
-
Desperately seeking artist/song
I’m not sure anyone has been searching for it just trying to help out the one asking for info.

Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
I think there is more to it than gathering spare copies on the market, neither The Magicians, Milton Bennett nor The Paramount four have been selling cheap, all pretty much in demand titles. For one seller to sell multiple copies and still have copies for sale makes me thinks something dodgy going on. I was offered the Mill Evans from the seller last night at a discount.

Such as, apart from semi known pop like this one?
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
If that company still has the stampers/masters then there is nothing to stop them pressing more. something doesn’t look right with what is going on.
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
Certainly Sandra Richardson and the Nancy Wilcox. I wonder where this seller is getting all his copies?
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
how far back did the scam go Dean?
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
Same seller 4 Milton Bennetts, 4 Magicians, couple or so Paramount Four? Strange as none of those titles ever appeared with any regularity, just what seemed like genuine owners off loading their copies as I did. They were well before the over press scam came to light. Nothing ever suspicious about those titles previously. @Ady Croasdell

Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
Could be one of those ultra violet light markers
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
Smith Brothers is probably one that was over pressed illegally. I don’t remember titles appearing in quantity on the open market before the Nancy Wilcox 36th anniversary 45. Certainly don’t recall any titles like those Woodbutcher linked too, Paramount Four and Milton Bennett.
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
They would press what Ace/Kent requested, if the plant damaged or broke some then they would press the amount to replace.
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
They simply pressed more than they should have done, gave Ady his allocation and sold the rest themselves
-
Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
They aren’t bootlegs or counterfeits in reality. Tis very naughty what they did and probably illegal. How would we know what was done? well certain titles began to appear in regularity, far more than anniversary attendees off loading their copies. The two I mentioned above are the ones I first remember appearing like that.

Kent Anniversary counterfeits or are they?
I didn't think the scam had been go on for as long as some of those discs but he has sold multiple copies so that would set alarm bells ringing. I certainly don't recall extra copies of say Milton Bennett kicking around, there was no copies about when I sold mine.
