  1. Saw both Dionne Warwick and Martha Reeves live not to long ago, very disappointing, both well past thier best and Martha looked like Arthur! It's true what they say about going to see your heroes,it can be disappointing, specially if it was Jimmy Saville.

Marva w Taylor, fabulous record, always thought it to be a second mortgage job, certainly sounds like one.
  6. What a stand out track that is,so well respected.Been around forever, everybody likes it,everybody wants one at some time, new people turn on to it,a track with universal appeal for sure.
  7. I set off for an all dayer in London once, next thing you know I found myself on centre court at Wimbledon...thing is,I wasn't even seeded!..you couldn't make it up could you?
  8. "The upset"lesser played killer mid tempo track by him on Lloyd records, apparently made before "chills and fever",quite rare too.On you tube though.

Esther Phillips"home is where the hatred is"autobiographically frank, chills you to the bone.
  12. Wow! What a fantastic set list, you'd have to go a long way to hear better than that,Richard Stoute,Five Stairsteps etc.Absolutely top drawer, well in.has anyone flipped J P Robinson? great double header.

Queen of the female heartbreakers,Maxine Brown"the greatest female to ever step up to the microphone, blessed with that voice then applying it with total conviction without even trying,"don't leave me baby"..a case in point,..off me soapbox, well you did ask.
  14. Loved mighty Sam for years, always thought it was worthy of plays, suppose they come round eventually.Super track.
  15. A rather nice little ditty that goes well with the Hamilton movement is Cane and Abel"relating a message to you",reminiscent of Curtis Mayfield in style, worth a listen.
  16. Another soul gent passes,an all too familiar part of being on the soul scene.A guy with excellent taste who was always willing to share what he knew, and someone who liked a good laugh with his soul.Thoughts go out from me and Eileen to his family,God bless him.
  17. Great playlists, mighty Sam,trampps, real nice.Should be a big track that, along with "rubberband"sampled by Mary J Blige and Jaheim,no reason why our crowd shouldn't go for it.
  18. Now how sad is that? The Wilton has been one of the few progressive venues, ran by folk who really care, been sad to see the club go down but those guys can be proud of what they have achieved at that venue.

  20. With hindsight I would have purchased everything I ever clapped eyes on,imagine that! Watching old footage of collectors passing by endless white labels when they could have bought the lot.Pretty good advice too for anyone starting collecting, whatever genre.
  21. Best sleeve notes I ever read were by Dave on Bobby Blands"piece of gold, writing about elitism and how,at the end of the day, artists have got to make a living.
  22. Corbett set..well impressed, something for everyone, would've loved to hear Antonio Castro played out, just to see the reaction, great track.
  23. Ooh a bit of culture, splendid stuff.Unfortunately not for knuckle draggers though, but those of us who appreciate the finer things in life applaud it...good arrer!
  24. I've always resisted describing records as"shit, crap, etc, because they all mean something to someone in different ways, reminding folk of people ,places etc.Much prefer to just say I don't like it.
  25. Youza,Youza,Youza!,dont try to resist change, the funk will be in yo face, and we'll all be gittin on down, bustin mooves to dem latest grooves!
