    Rest well Micky.......
  2. Further to my earlier post, having bought a second hand pair of Stantons, I was in my "oils", with for the first time, having pitch control (LOL), a couple of years ago, and passing the spare onto my youngest son, I whence.....the problems started! Having messed around with the pitch control for the first time, through sheer curiosity, rather than neccessity, noticed on returning to zero pitch, that firstly, the drivebelt started squealling, followed by a decline in RPM! Sought and purchased several (sized) belts cheaply, and fitted the closest sized belt and eradicated the squeal, however, noticed the pitch had diminished further.....Anomaly or had my motor speed diminished?I'm yet to further the enquiry as it is now boxed in my attic space, due to the kindness of Santa bringing me a Stanton T62 direct drive! I will rescue it in due course and hopefully sort the"fault"......First real love etc.etc.

Could someone please enlighten me with regard his version of I'm gone 45 on Spectrum? I appreciate the record was released on both the Plum/Blue labels, so am assuming the Plum issue was 1st release ? Is there an identifying difference label wise (colour apart) that would define a difference?.....Cutting to the chase, if the releases were both preceded by White Demos? How would you identify the former from the latter in demo format
  5. Amazon, found replacement belts and cartridges for my previous turntable, what player have you got?
  6. Super article Mr.Rix!
  7. First album I ever purchased was a Reggae compilation on MFP I believe, closely followed by the Tighten up Lp's in order.....First Soul album was also the starline Isley brothers outing.....Very Happy Days indeed
  8. Whilst stating the obvious, what an awesome portfolio the Stax/Volt "empire" contains! I love so much of their output, but since personally taking on a Detroit collecting perspective, am "pleasantly" mystified as to the Groovesville connection, and its actual production links between Memphis and the Motor City?? Alas there have been numerous class tracks mentioned, and I struggle to add to a much revered list, but the Dramatics-Your love was strange, United Image-Love's creeping up on me, and Roz Ryan-You're my only temptation, are my input for now
  9. Junior Walker at Tiffanys Newport.....yet another story, having had to sadly miss his performance at the Casino, the previous week! Edwin Starr.....Never tired of hearing him.....and possibly the best vocalist I've been lucky enough to have shared the same "space" with! Probably the most emotional experience, having seen many artist(e)s over the years, was the Funk Brothers, at Manchester Apollo, and hearing the opening bars to "It's a shame" (Detroit Spinners).....Thought I was present at 2648 West Grand Boulevard "back in the day",(when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up)......Not many of the original ensemble left, and the credits given to the absent members (with just their enlarged photos on display), left a very large lump in my throat........
  10. Whilst there are numerous tunes I've heard over the years that I wish I hadn't, I do appreciate that taste is individual, however apart from the obvious cringeworthy classics .....three that annoy me from a personal perspective, and in no particular order , are Burning Bush, Tim Tam & Turn ons, and Muriel Day, and seek forgiveness for omitting the shite I've overlooked

  12. Scratch my vinyl like that and Ikea could have a lawsuit
  13. When I was lucky enough to discover the "Northern Soul" phenomenon in 1974, I like most at the time probably never imagined the longevity of "our scene" or even thought about it I suppose? Almost 40 years on, and as I've quoted in another thread, am more interested in the collecting side of things than ever before! Whilst I feel privileged at this stage of my life to at last be in a position to utilise my "disposable" income on an interest I have largely revered throughout my involvement,I do so nowadays out of almost childlike excitement, rather than thinking of investment, as my passion for the music far outweighs the thought of what tomorrow may bring!.As selfish as it sounds, whilst my loved ones will be cared for, I live for today, my records and my music are more important to me now than they've ever been.....And there ain't no pockets in a shroud!
  14. My passion for collecting vinyl has grown with my age TBH, and the last 10 years in particular have brought a more serious albeit interesting side to the hobby! I collect most things "soulful" from the "Motor City" in both 45 and 33 RPM format, covering three decades (1960's-1980's) although the bulk are from the earlier era, and I store them alphabetically in label order in flight cases, and systematically alternate in playing through individual boxes on one of my "four days off" for at least 3-4 hours at a time,on a weekly basis. In all honesty whilst I have built up and then sold several collections (for various reasons) over the past four decades, I have never really paid that much attention to detail relating to the records source of origin, or any other background information other than the artist(e)s etc. until recent times, and as I may have mentioned in similar topics, I class myself as a "mature student" in the history of Detroit Soul music.....Whilst I have slowed down somewhat from a social perspective, with regard to attending Niters/Soul Nights, my appetite for shortening my vinyl wants list remains hungrier than ever.....
  15. I can vouch for above, having visited the premises about a year ago,and to be fair the shop is well worth a visit, particularly if you are in the area, with record boxes appearing from all angles to suit most budgets, besides the regular stuff .......Moreover an interesting "Alladins cave" with both a very interesting and knowledgeable frontman and genuinely nice guy Francis Tee as Host!
  16. You Learn Something Everyday.....I still "Know Nothing" Respect wilxy
  17. Personally not a Sandpipers fan as such Per sae (LOL), however I must say the CD is a superb compilation, and I eagerly await further output in due course!
  18. Mine also arrived today, and is about to be unleashed on the ears

I have collected records even prior to my introduction to "Northern Soul" almost 40 years ago, primarily Reggae and Motown, but it has to be said, having had to part with several collections for varying reasons during the 70's/80's/90's,and since selling my last decent Northern collection in 2001it became a case of if I parted with my last handful of favourite Motown pieces it would have been "goodnight"!!!.......Alas the bug didn't desert me, and from almost collecting the larger part of the 60's US Motown portfolio, I eventually drifted into Detroit (in general) which I am patiently "chipping away" at! Whilst it is extremely doubtful I will ever get near the "home straight" from a collecting perspective, my interest in collecting is greater than ever, thus my retirement date seems to be evermore distant....
  20. In what respect is the Lee Jennings, better, I do recall reading sometime ago about this?
  21. Is there anyway of knowing, the difference between the Little Roger Hatcher mis-press/Hank Johnson-Lost Love-Ten High, if one was seen listed etc. other than asking the seller which I naively failed to do! Thinking that the disc again naively was a mis-press full stop (Doh), I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and I was excitedly awaiting the mis-press to pound out of my speakers, having smugly thought I'd picked up a copy at a snip.....alas disappointedly, Hank himself chose to make his debut on my eardrums, and my smugness turned to extreme disappointment within a couple of revolutions of my turntable! The only way I can describe the feeling was like losing my wallet fully laden, and getting a parking ticket whilst looking for it! It has made my quest in locating mr. Hatchers' effort even more determined, so if anyone can either enlighten me or furthermore, point me in the direction of a copy, please do so. Thanks for sharing my "grief", in reading the above, and I eagerly await a sympathetic response Cheers wilxy
