  1. Thanks, I look forward to reading. I think Thom is a little underappreciated in comparison to some producers and writers.
  2. Thanks for the music. Love The Chants song, had it on a demo and crazily sold it for a decent sum. I should of kept it.
  3. I think this is more accurately Ken Knox and Company and the song title just 'You' released on Sophee Records in 2012. Available on legal download at Amazon, CDBaby and no doubt others. Ken is from latter period Chairmen of the Board and Beach Music scene. He is fronting them now In a revived line up I believe. Recent songs available on Disco Soul Gold. Hope that is accurate and helps Mark
  4. New Diane Shaw album.arrived yesterday. Hurrah.
  5. Great singer in the band and solo. Here is one of his plays.
  6. Crack of Dawn album good at year end. Simon Law was great earlier in summer. I2 Love Music compilation Sheena Johnson as others said - new album is classic soul songs done in original 60's style. Very good contemporary Northern Soul. Kim Gibbs was great. Curtis Harding is quite good. Got but not concentrated on the Eric Roberson triple mini album series yet. Sedsoul singles and Disco Soul Gold recent compilations. Hide & Seek comp was great. Kenny Lattimore album is nice. Funkadelic reworks is fun. Calvin Richardson, Marc Staggers albums were good. Diane Shaw in new year (MP3s released but CD in next week or so). More when I get back to computer. Tons of new releases due early in 18.
  7. That post is wonderful! What a testament to the work and looking forward to the CD.

  9. I fundamentally disagree that there isn't such a thing as Soul music today. Have a listen to the new album by Sugaray Rayford and many other artists. It's not in the charts but there is a lot around.
  10. Sad news. Great memories from his songs on our scene.
  11. I think the riff is ultimately a faster play on the blues riff in Mannish Boy / I'm A Man. The original poster was spot on and I'd never noticed the similarly in emphasis if not sound to 'You Really Got Me'. The most obvious influence to the record in style is in all those frantic Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels records, especially 'Jenny Take A Ride'.
  12. Yes nothing against the music and dedication to compile it well.
  13. Great reading in this thread. I have the book ready to read on holiday next week. This thread added to the anticipation.
  14. Wow. That's a nice moment.
  15. Sad to hear. Denise has made lots of great music we enjoy. Recently I've been listening to her 1970s recordings more including the post-disco stuff. Going soft in my old age! It is interesting reading about Denise LaSalle in the new Memphis '68 book.
  16. The music will be fun I am sure but that is one pretentious lengthy album description for what is essentially fairly shallow dance funk (none the worse for that). I have the first three and never feel the need to hear them though happy if a track comes up on shuffle.
  17. He is mentioned in context of Small Faces when I saw this before. I do not recall his reputed worst excesses being mentioned.
  18. Enjoying this CD greatly, hoping for more soon in the series.
  19. A number of relevant artists did a 'Reap What You Sow' including Otis Rush, Guitar Slim, Billy Stewart and Sonny Terry. Not had time to check this file above but may be one of those.
  20. Her album reissue is excellent but the band on it will not be that touring. Best wishes to her with thanks.
  21. Thanks for the great music which continued the quality into his second era throughout the 70s.
  22. Very sad to hear. Jerry was a great contributor to classic pop and soul in the 60s. Great that he had a themed compilation but there is so much more to explore. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Some-Kinda-Magic-Songs-Jerry/dp/B01FK2WUUK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507241422&sr=8-1&keywords=Jerry+ross
  23. Many of these albums are not put up by the label and registered properly for streaming revenues to the collected, so are piracy in another form. They often get taken down again fairly quickly. Where the label has done it, it seems confusing to do that but then release it on CD too. They are literally killing off their own sales. It's one thing to licence it to a full streaming service such as Spotify, GooglePlay etc but just to put the whole album on YouTube is daft I think. I used to run a legal music streaming/download service and labels/artists are often so keen to get the music out they have no view on the commercial aspects, especially in this area of transition to fully digital.
  24. Myself I'd say 130 BPM and over approximately. It's not exact as a fast record that has a lighter beat may not sound as frenetic as a slightly slower one with a more intense beat. Once you get towards 140 BPM it's undeniable though.
