  1. Something went wrong there ,but it was funny.
  2. Have seen it in a couple of play lists, but can't remember where. Think it came out well before the excellent cover version of 'Make it sweet'. imo it needs to come down a couple of notches on the deck. Mine has a solid center, but I am not sure if they were all pressed like that. Think it was only a three hundred press, so I would guess they are all like that. Andy
  3. Have sent PM Andy
  4. Had the chuck brown 12" several times, but has anybody out there got this on 7"? Andy

A top notch harmony group who would seemed to have split after that one final Gordy release, A real shame Mr Gordy did not let them loose on other material. It would appear Leon Thomas was in the group. As great as it is, the price on that Smash 45 is nuts!
  6. A few years ago I got John to auction Barbara Masons 'You better stop it'. It sold for £407! Minus the 15% gave me £346. Even if that 45 had been in my sales box during the same period for £300 I have a feeling I would have struggled to sell it, and would have probably been called a number of choice names for good measure. He also achieved great prices for me on more modern titles like Cix bits band, Record player, Dolly Gilmore etc. So as others have stated it can be a good way to go, even after the fees. The great thing about all this is you never know what the next piece is that's gonna fetch crazy money.
  7. You are correct in saying that we don't know what was in the contract, but I doubt very much that it said you will get f*** all. you are also correct regarding royalties due on such a very small press, as it must be peanuts. I was simply highlighting the morality and principle of the whole thing. I know full well royalties have nothing to do with second hand records, just making light of the situation given that other good will gestures have happened over the years between artists and fans. I would have thought royalties on masters come in to play when a record is re -issued, But has little to do with original sales. So what's this general release comment?. Just because it did not appear in woolworths does not mean they were given away!
  8. Great to hear the classic Earth Wind & Fire track along side things like that Astrology 45,great logo on that one! Cheers.
  9. Remember having a copy of Dave sometime around 85-86 With Dave trying to convince me it was not easy to find on an issue. So I caved in and I still own it. Happy days.
  10. Tony Boyd was lead with the Presidents and Anacostia. However Archie Powell who was previously with the Ascots and Billy Shorter were not. Boyd was also lead with the group Trilogy also on Sussex. Andy
  11. So the very person who not only wrote the song, but sung the damn thing as well, has stated he did not get paid a penny. And just to rub it in, some bloke has just paid over £800 for it. Smells to me like the situation where OV Wright's head stone was in fact purchased with help from his fans, won of whom does not live far from me. We all know this sort of thing was common within the music industry, but It would be nice just once in a while to hear of a happy ending ie the seller and buyer getting together and sending 15% to Milton, as they obviously have deep pockets. Or give it to his sister Betty to pass it on. I am no expert on publishing etc, but who should have paid him? .

Remember that crew all contributing to the atmosphere, while the likes of Curtis on Charm city & King tutt were being spun. Some what amusing, but I wasn't offended. I was offended however when some rat found my cloakroom numbered ticket on the floor which had fallen from my pocket, which he used to steel my bag along with the records inside that I had just purchased. All sort of fell into place on my following visit as I was looking for Tower of power 'This time it's real'. A real evergreen oldie now , but back then I could not for the life of me remember the artist. Anyway I saw this record in a one of Tim ash's boxes with a similar title, so I took the chance. I ended up with George Hobson, it was £15. Being a bit green and a bit of a muppet you never know what you might end up with!

  18. Totally agree Quinvy. Just wondered if anyone has actually listened to the cheep and cheezy way those back up girls do their little chant. No emotion, precious little soul. Butlins material.
  19. This came over on 12" format in quantity, and was played by most jocks on both the club and the then modern soul scene alike. actually got mine from Top shop! in Norwich the same week it was imported. So a topic on who played records like this first is crazy and compleat guess work, given that so many people bought it at the same time. Mr Vincent also played some good indie soul during that period, which very few gave him credit for. Good shout Bobby.
  20. Think i'll stick to looking rather than listening
  21. Smokie Norful. Every home should have one. Brilliant track Mark.
  22. I have never witnessed any racist behavior at any all- nighters, weekenders or soul nights. Most all-nighters I attended since the late seventies always had a few black or mixed race folks in attendance, but I well remember an all-dayer which I think was in the midlands during the early eighties when there was northern and modern in one room with another playing jazz/funk and current black club sounds in another. Sam decided to play Booker Newbury 'Love town' in his modern set, as it had only just got released. This was followed by a rush of black folks from the Jazz funk room to dance to it. I always remembered thinking, it was such a pity there was not more of this cross reference between the scenes. Contrary to one poster on this thread, I have witnessed a lot more black folks at the early jazz/funk weekends than he mentions .At the Caistor weekends back in the late seventies up to a third was normal. Really good people, With several becoming good friends, with one being godfather to my son. Just do not understand how people can stoke up racism on the back of a club culture they know precious little about, and get away with it !.
  23. Yes, that was the copy Jason. And yes it's funny how many rare under the radar items somehow need to have a big ticket or reputation attached to them before a small fish like me can flog it ! . Which was why I touched on the sheep mentality. Anyway I left lime scale remover on the Snap prescot for a day, and it plays very much better now. You should have twigged that Jason, given that it looked like it had been under water for some time.
