The fire was in July of 1980 and although a major event it was not entirely destroyed. I was at Ally Pally in June 1980 for the "Beat the Blues" festival/concert , the Jam gig in Feb/Mar '82 and numerous visits during '83-85' whilst building exhibition stands , so the fair could well have been between '80 and '88 in the temporarily rehashed building.
