  1. Old age ain't nothin' but a matter of time!
  2. I didn't mean washing up liquid, I'm dredging it up from somewhere, but I vaguely remember successfully cleaning some particularly filthy car boot finds with some kitchen cleaning product you recommended. I'd tried the PVA glue thing without success. I thought it was fairy but maybe not.
  3. Did they stop making that Fairy stuff you used to recommend Pete?

Creative approach taken to giving the Ritz Hotel some grief.
  5. As an English type, I am very frustrated that there appears to be no way for me to buy these yet! Is "ow Great Thou Art by Kim Weston" an old Yorkshire song?
  6. There is. I'm not the only Kent completist around here.
  7. Always find it hard to pick a top five but my five most played are: Can't Shake It - Etta James My Baby Moves Me - Brenda Holloway Don't Leave Me Baby - Maxine Brown My Man Don't Think I Know - Gwen Davis My Heart is in Danger - Alder Ray
  8. I'm really knocked out by this. It is a hugely impressive and very comprehensive homage to the mighty Scepter-Wand labels. It's really well written and an absolute joy to read. Congratulations to Steve on a superb piece of work. I know it must have been a real labour of love but it must have been a lot of effort!
  9. Thanks for the terrific review which inspired me to buy it. I'm greatly impressed. A superb testament to Bob's contribution to Chicago Soul.
  10. A truly great album. I picked mine up for next to nothing in Global in the early 70's and it's never moved out my regular play section.
  11. That's a great story. Thanks for sharing it.
  12. Mine are in chronological order of purchase. They go into a white cardboard sleeve with a number on a rectangular white label stuck on it. This works for me because I have never sold any. I tell the Mrs that my whole "system" would fall into disarray if I sold even one. From 1971 to 1997 I wrote them down in order in hardback books, then I discovered excel and speech recognition software and dispensed with the books; though kept them for sentimental reasons. I make basic, pine wooden boxes to keep them in, making a new one each time one gets full. A recent addition is that I now stick castors on some of the boxes to make them easier to move around when they are on the floor in my loft.
  13. Playing them is what I buy them for. I play them for an easily pleased audience of one, two if I include some Aretha for the Mrs. I have a turntable in my living room and a nice set up in my loft / music room which is extra insulated to keep the noise in. I'm never happier than when listening to vinyl up there. I can't understand anyone buying stuff and not playing it.
  14. Halfway through and absolutely loving it. Superbly written and a genuinely authentic account; as you would expect if you've read his other stuff. A must buy!
  15. Nice one Dave. I've bought both from Amazon. Always regretted missing volume 1 at the time.

Blimey mate, I think you have completely misconstrued Peter99's post. It seemed to me that he was speaking up for Barry, saying it was unfortunate this bandit had chosen a similar sales name, not having a dig at all.
  17. I've really enjoyed this. John's done a superb job. It's written in a really informative and entertaining way. I definitely recommend it! John
  18. Congratulations, many happy years of babysitting to come! John
  19. Them hedgehogs breed fast!
  20. Astonishing collection. I guess Motown could only release so many singles, but how some of these stayed in the vaults is breathtaking. So good it dislodged the Jack Ashford collection out of the CD player for a full day!
  21. That's really not helped it seem any more attractive or edible! It needs to be filed under bait!
  22. I think you are right. Google shows lots of varieties of sea cucumbers some of whch are a bit similar to this one. It wasn't dead. I really wouldn't want it in your Pimms or in my Peking Duck pancake.
  23. We watched the fishermen unload one morning. One of them was trying to get this out of the net. No idea what it was, he wrestled with it for about ten minutes but it was properly tangled up and he threw it down in disgust and stomped off. It was about 18 inches in length and thoroughly weird looking!
  24. We've been in Portugal again and I have tried to get some bird photos for you bird lovers. I think I know what they are but am not risking the humiliation of being wrong!
  25. Never really understood the crossover nomenclature. Lots of tunes I love listed above but not sure why they are classified as crossover. So......trying to work out what might catch the label. What about: Denise Lasalle - Here I am Again Anne Peebles - If this is Heaven Bobby McClure - Was it Something I Said? And why would they be crossover rather than modern soul? Genuine question!
