Rare and Northern Soul - so what's the difference?
was classed as rare soul as in the 80s a lot more records being broke were covered up and nobody knew what it was.just sounds better than yet to be discovered soul or 60s newies or however it got pigeon holed by people.some great records discovered post wigan kept the scene ticking over in the 80s /90s .stafford and tonys for example great nights top tunes.

TWO THINGS THAT ARE KILLING THE SOUL SCENE
i think the bowlers event this weekend will be a good yard stick to how the scene is progressing huge venue easily capable of 4000 + punters great mixture of dj and promoters and 4 rooms of different styles of soul music. wish the promoters every success with this promotion and gets a the scene behind it looking forward to it myself and turns into a regular event. from the dj line up its not gonna be a northern soul top 100 songs event. great venue been there before for a none northern event

- Morecambe - 80s Allnighters
first 3 years were at the central pier till it caught fire original djs were richard searling, pat brady, john vincent ,russ winstanley, brian rae, keith minshell .in the starlight room steve whittle, marc farley, steve brackenbridge, derek smith and keith brady . Then did a few allnighter in the dome a council building, move to the carlton inn had 4th anniversary there which had a side room known as the garage which was a modern room. there was a few allnighters in a small night club called the gardens but wasnt nothing to do with his family. gary taylor, mark warmsley and jason conroy djed at the carlton. so great night had there so great acts such as prince phillip mitchell, chuck jackson, gene chandler, the flirtations, sam ward, francis nero, great nights and especially the pier allnighters dont get the recognition it deserves in my opinion. yes shaun was the sole promoter of soul promotions- Rubble Kings - The story of the birth of Hip-Hop
looking forward to straight out of compton aug 16th i think, nwa and the deathrow records bust up gets good ratings so far- Rubble Kings - The story of the birth of Hip-Hop
more to do with the gangs and the famous meeting like in the film the warriors. little towards the end goes on to when the gangs stopped fighting and were talking about block parties which when lead into hip hop/sampling music great documentary really enjoyed it especially as it was from the original gangs and there members- R.I.P Joe Torquay
eternal rest mate RIP- " and young America has been responsible
the coasters - cool jerk stands out to me- Greg Perry "Heart" when & where
kind of get what your saying dean it was 80% oldies /10%60 newies /10%modern but to me it had a great mixture to my tastes at the time. with not going to wigan as i was to young, the music was all new in a way and didnt mind the mixture of music. as with time your taste changes and the top 500 northern records become mundane and wanted to here unheard or rediscovered tunes id missed but to me morecambe was were i cut my teeth as it where and love it great fond memories of the pier allnighters- NEW NORTHERN SOUL PODCAST DO IT TO IT
enjoyed it pete. top notch as always cheers- New release Northern hits
would class ujima and collins and co as pricey and could never of been able to afford them back then. Curtis was hard to pick up but wasn't dear only paid £30 for it - Morecambe - 80s Allnighters
