  12. I had a long chat with Sammy on the first night he came over, not at any point did he mention he had copies for sale. Interestingly he did go into great length telling me about how he written, funded, owned, sang, made, sorted studio time, owned the label etc, etc, etc. I asked if it cost you everything you had at the time why didn't you save money and only put out a demo or a issue instead of both He replied That demo man I'm not going up that street Then quickly went on to his employment under George Blackwell

  14. A few years back I was enjoying a coffee with Gigi (The Charmains) wife of the late Herman Griffin / Lewis when out of the blue she mentioned that she originally sang I need you like a baby (Andrea Henry) and had it on a funny metal disc coved in vinyl, but her husband backed the second version by Andrea We search that house and garage but with no joy. Who knows one day she may find it and then it may take its place on a thread like this. Its that rare none of us have heard it (to the best of my knowledge)
  15. I was lucky enough to have the chalet next door to Richie Pitts at Prestatyn weekender 3 years running. He is a true gentleman, he told me that they came over hear touring as the Velours and were persuaded by Peter Springfellow to change there name to the Fantastic, He had moved to Sheffield and was enjoying his royalties from the theme music he had written for the TV show Black Adder He appeared at the weekender the first time as a booked artist in his own right and after that he kept turning out to help with backing

  21. Eddie - South Africa, but why you may ask Heres a link but its a bit sad but well worth reading Barbara Randolph was one of my favourite Motown girls, She was so tall, elegant, and fabulous, full of charm and poise and grace. She was married to Eddie Singleton, former A&R executive at Motown in the 1960s. Eddie's first wife had been Berry Gordy's ex-wife, Raynoma Gordy, also known as Miss Ray, who ran off with Eddie and together they formed Shrine Records, which, supposedly, got blacklisted by every radio station in the USA, out of their loyalty to Motown. Eddie married Barbara, but had the amazing situation of Raynoma still living in their house. Barbara's biggest Motown classic was "I Got A Feeling", a true anthem, and in fact only recently, Motown put out an entire CD of her work there, including many unreleased recordings. Her version of "Baby Don't You Do It" has to be heard to be believed. After Motown, she acted in a couple of films, recorded for Eddie's label Tarca, and then signed to Motorcity, where we did an entire album called "Breaking Into My Heart". This song, "Mister Wonderful", was written by Sylvia Moy and myself, about her love for Eddie, and indeed she sings it straight to him as she records it, captured on this amazing video for posterity. Years later, she suddenly and without warning left Eddie, and told him she'd fallen out of love with him, something he couldn't come to terms with, so he moved to South Africa. It transpired that she knew she was wasting away from Cancer, and didn't want him to see her die slowly, so she left him, and lied to him, just to spare him the agony, and he only found this out after her death. Knowing this tragedy makes this video so poignant, and knowing how deeply they loved each other really brought tears to my eyes. She was lovely, and is much missed.
  22. Recently double decked at an allnighter and finished of with Johnny Summers I cant let go. When we had finished the sound engineers kicked into action packing all the gear away. Got home and my record was missing, I cant tell you how bad I felt, the memories came flooding back of where i bought it from - how much I paid - how long it took me to get it. (not quite the rarest record ever made) but I was so pissed off with myself Phoned me mate who I double decked with and it was in his box Panic over, life was great again. I only experienced this for a few hours so I cant imagine how it is for you guys who have felt this for years.
