1980s Scarborough Scooter Rally Mod Revival

Happy days. Dozens of us went down religeously.

Four Seasons/Rudies.

Salisbury Pickwick pubs.

Staple destination for Bank Holidays.

Huge scooter numbers and increased massively after quadraphenia.

Witnessed a real shocker on one occasion. Some mouthy mods giving a car driver some hassle. Driver gets out, gets a wood saw from the boot, and slashes one youth across his face like a sword. Never seen so much blood. Not all happy days then I guess.

Makes you realise the timeless style of scooters compared to the cars.

One year we went down (1981?) and came out of the B&B Sunday morning and someone had thrown paint stripper over all our scooters.

Couldn't decide whether it was some locals who did it, bikers, or some lads we got into a brawl with the night before.

Remember riding back home on BH Monday (it was sunny when we went and dressed appropriately) and it was snowing on the pennines on the way back. Hungover, penniless, and freezing cold on a vandalised Lambretta and also got ticketed for riding on the motorway on L plates.

..... Happy days

Nice footage that.

We were so young then.

Remember the gathering below the cliffs on a narrow stretch of road.We just chilled out watching the scooters and people .

99% of the attendees were well behaved.

Great days 👍

I was probably there then. Don’t remember niters though. The Penthouse club did have some soul nights prior to Four Seasons but was more of a live band venue.  Lots punk and new wave bands played there after Leeds on way to Newcastle.  Tiffany’s also had bands such as the fantastics but closed at 2.

An interesting watch, of something I

was never ever part of.  Early 80's massively into Jazz Funk and plenty of acts live in the South..

Brilliant footage that. I was DJ'ing there all weekend. The allniter mentioned was at the Corner Cafe on Saturday night. It was Martin from Scarbororo who used to do the Scooter magazine that organised the weekend and he asked me to DJ. He had Zoot and the Roots playing in a nightclub for a couple of nights and me and Jinxy from Scarboro Dj'ing before and after them. Before was better as they were a hard act to follow as the place just went mental. Remember talking about records with Miles and the drummer (sorry can't remember his name but he was well into the music). The allniter was the first I think at the Corner Cafe. There was Clive Jones, another big name Scooter DJ aswell who's name I can't remember, Jinxy and me DJ'ing at it. Probably between 1981 - 1983 I think. Great times, can't believe how young we looked.

Hi Dave, great info - it was me that asked where the niter was as I thought it might have been the Corner Cafe - know it well as I was in a couple of talent contests there c. 1986 with a band I was in

Also being from York I was a massive Zoot & the Roots fan and used to see them all the time (York Rugby Club, St Johns, Leeds Duchess, etc) 1986-7 - you're right, the place always did go mental
