Hi all,

Well, its that time of year again thumbsup.gif

Exactly 12 months since we did the last 'Top Tips' thread... so, as it's now a Soul Source tradition, here we go again!

Here's your opportunity to tip the tunes in your box for future greatness, during the forthcoming year... or simply list any number of records that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers.

You might be a DJ with that tasty unplayed, unknown, hardly played or semi-known 45 stuck in the back of your box that you'd love to play out... but haven't quite got around to it... yet!

You might be a collector, sitting on a tune that you know, if it got into the right hands, could become massive in the next 12 months.

It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves.

It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just have what it takes to become a monster!

We're talking, Northern, Modern, Crossover or 'Just Soul' biggrin.gif Whatever floats your boat!

No need to post sound clips. Just let us know what you've got that you think deserves a really big plug in the coming year!

So come on. Look at your box and let's have your top tip (or tips) for 2011.

I agree with SEBASTIAN on the PHYLLIS DILLON version it's nowhere near the quality of BETTYE SWANN version or even the ZZ HILL cover in my honest opinion

Let's not forget Spencer Wiggins recent CD release version from Fame, out on a bit of plastic in a couple of weeks.

As far as rare jamaican releases are concerned, my vote goes to Blues Busters "Ohh Baby" on BMN which was mentioned earlier in this thread. Definitely deserves further spins.

Debonaires on Galaxy have already been quite sucessful on Berlin dancefloors a couple of yeras ago. almost as sucessful as the Roy Roberty on Linco currently is. Both fab 45s with the Linco record being absolutely ace! Bought it blind and never ever did I regret it.

That Sir Joe 'Nobody Beats My Love' blows pretty much most stuff out of the water in terms of just sheer knackers on the table, rolling intro, northern heaviness. Its got it all.

did a quick search for my old copy as I was fearing...well, but thankfully it was where it should be LOL ! Anyway, next 45 in line after this beauty is another one I used to play back then alongside Debonaires...maybe also right for re-animation...the right kind "right kinda guy" on galaxy. Couldn`t find it on youtube or resoul so I have to post a link to JM site

I assume robert thomas on venture has already had its time as a fairly well known dancefloor filler ?

a couple of copies just gone through ebay relatively cheap and the deep soul flip is incredible.

banny price "monkey see monkey do" would be my tip for an instrumental that could have some success. It sounds awesome to me.

nice to see roy roberts on linco being tipped now i've sold mine :lol:

The ballad version of "Color One Tear Black" on the other side of the Strike 45 is a truly incredible record.

Yes the ballad side is great too, but delighted to see this old SouL Essence spin making it across the divide. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Some stunning tunes posted, but one disc that will definitley without a shadow of a doubt reach a wider audience this year & will become a stone cold Northern Soul classic is the magnificent SIR JOE a truly monstrous record - Mr Thorley - take a bow - its people like Dave (& others) who NEVER stop diggin' that we can thank for us still hearing newly discovered quality NS on our dance floors, thank the lord !!!

If Sir Joe doesnt reach legendary proportions this year my cocks a kipper...........

Been playing this in europe for a few years as The Memphians - Mississippi Sunrise C/U, hand about ten of these sold all of them barr one, so clearly someone likes it.

Comes on a tiny Detroit label (MTNA), Bland Allison - I can't get back to you again pt1-2 and is infact Rudy Robinson and his band, the label was owned by Jim Holland of the Holidays. It's part 2, bit of an oddity as pt1 a group ballad sounds nothing like this instrumental.

The other side of Sir Joe - "if you give up your love",spun at Lifeline by Ady Pountain,(or was it Mick H?), had us scratching our heads.Knew the vocals/production - all makes sense now.:D

dont know if anyone else out there is playing this,not seen it on any play/sales lists....but out of all my new spins at go go children down here in bristol it seems to be picking up the most requests from long time soulies and newcomers alike...

not in manships book ,picked it up off chapman records a few months back...described as mod/rnb dancer which it is but its also soulful enough not to be called 'rock n roll shit ' by rnb haters !!

and its loads better than 'lovin time'
