dont you just love people like this? they throw a shed load of talc down ,dance to half a record max, then sod off to another part of the dance floor and do exactly the same. by the end of the nite you can do the bolero without movin a foot

But if the venue didn't have a dance-floor would you still dance??

There are plenty of very experienced and courteous dancers who wear the right footwear and use talc in moderation to make any generalisations pretty silly.

Some dancefloors - despite bullsh-- assurances from their promoters - just suck. Literally.

There was no talc needed at St.Ives in the 70's it was so well polished it was too slippy...Actually l remember slipping dancing to Art Freeman!

Some floors aint polished, some aint wood and no footwear will aid dancing at times without a little sprinkle...

Maybe some go a little toooooooooooooooo far with the talc it seems... No need for it most of the time but a little sprinkle without blotting out the sun can help on the odd poor floor we get from time to time..

As a little foot note (exuse the pun) i always take 2 pairs of shoes to wherever im going, i once was witness to a very close friend of mines sole comming away from his shoe,whilst dancing,he knows who he is dont ya steve i mean pike.....i mean...

Anyone remember Canklow working mens club in the early 90's. The night began with a tacky, shitty floor so copious amounts of talc was applied, but by the end of the night with condensation or rising damp or whatever, the talc was turned into mud making it tacky & shitty again

Don't mind a bit especially on an unpolished floor. Also the older one gets the more it canes yer legs when really working hard to get yer feet to move. But the amount in the photo is just way over-the-top.

Debbie, I know where this pic is from and saw your mate in a really bad way on the stairs choking on the talc dust which was in the air. She looked really distressed. I think she and her fella must have left before you got there as I didn't see her again.

No it weren't bad was it. I don't mind a small pile of it near to a pillar or whatever so one can just dip yer soles in but scattered all over as thick as that is way out of order.

Honestly, when I saw the woman so distressed it brought it home to me just what a hazard it could be, not just to the healthy who catches a gob full of it but anyone with asthma or the like could have been in very serious difficulties.

I to know where this picture is from, yes it was an all over wooden floor, not a dancefloor though-no polish whatsoever, and even though my shoes are leather soled, I didn't think the floor was good at all (so welcomed some talc) although that said small quantities placed in corners that people can choose to dip into are better than someone dashing right round the floor 'puffing copious amounts under everyones feet.

Think I have previously read on here a tale of the state records, decks etc are left in following a night of liberal use of talc....

Apart from putting the talc on the floor(don't know why it never made me a better dancer),I would use it after about 4 or 5 hours of wearing those patched denim bags,Sweating like a pig,to stop my arse from being even more chapped

I used to be so anti-talc, but now I do sometimes use a tiny bit.. on one bit of floor. It's getting harder to find the right kind of soles on shoes. So many have that sticky rubbery stuff on them now. And my joints are a little more prone to getting sore than a few years ago. However the amount of talc pictured (at the top of the thread) is just selfish and annoying. There is a technique to subtle placing and dosage of talc! Done well it inconveniences no-one. Also you can then get away with it in venues where talc is 'banned'. I have ways of smuggling it in;e.g. kinder egg toy container. Such is how I get my fix of adventure and danger. That amount should suffice for a whole allnighter!

I prefer to dance on talc and walk about the floor to find some dance floor that has been talced.

But BEWARE I know some venues that have nearly closed because the owners where tired of cleaning up talc after the event.

The promoter had to do a full cleaning job after the event, so he didn't lose the venue!!

I had a phone call from my friend & she does suffer from Asthma, it did make her quite poorley, i would like to just say to anyone who does use the talc, please please just consider some other folk around you, try not to spray it in the air, but just point it towards the floor

My other mate had a nasty fall a couple of years back & hit her head, from slipping over because of too much talc on the floor.

When I used to frequent the Bradford Queens Hall Nighters in the late 80's they used to search your bags & holdalls on the way in, not for Beer, Drugs or Weapons ..... but for talcum powder !!!

I think it was a combination of playing havoc with the sound system & the massive clear up the morning after.

It was quite funny & bizarre seeing all the bottles of confiscated talc lined up in the reception area.

For me, occasionally a little bit of talc is needed but the above amount is just obscene & the perpetrater should have had their nose rubbed in it!!

Bogeys in Skegness it was, the patched denims weighed a ton, you could have as many flaps and pockets as you wanted and a waist band up to your armpits, memories flooding back of a waist i once had

Never had a problem, but i have always worn leather soled shoes for dancing, although the missus is talc crazy, before we went out with one another Sandi and i went to Pritchards "do" at Dudley, where talc was banned, she filled an ash tray and put it under the table, to dip her shoes in before dancing, and was most indignant when the management removed it, having followed the white footprints from the dancefloor to beneath our table!!!!!!

Gotta say if i wa still promoting as a trained IOSH health and safety rep., first aider and trained risk assesor, i would be carrying out risk asessments and would as a result ban talc, and also those ridiculously outdated and totally "cringeworthy" accrobatics during dancing at any event as they are a claim just waiting to happen, all that throwing yourself about was ok in '74 when we were kids, 50+, people doing it now look silly i'm afraid, we may as well just come out and dance the charleston, another silly outmoded/outdated dance form!!!!

I agree with Billy that you need talk, it matter not how good the floor is or what shoes you are wearing because as the night wears on it does get harder to slide.

I do not agree with talc being thrown about with reckless abandon so it looks like a bun fight in a floor mill.

I have been to one or two allnighters and seen the talcum powder police following dancers with a mop and bucket; I didn't go back to the nighter.
