Single EP's Extended Play Singles, if I remember correctly still 45rpm but with 2 tracks squeezed onto one side, was the 3 before 8 on one? Has there been any other EP's with Northernsoul? I seam to remember a live EP or it could have been a boot? Also if my fuzzy memory serves, I often heard of tracks only avalible on EP's?

After that they called them maxi singles, usually they had paper picture covers or just normal label sleeves. The proper EPs had cardboard covers made like Album covers. The earliest EP i have ever had, was by Paul Anka from 1957. But then i am an old fart. Stu. I've got one by Paul Anka from about that time, with Diana and I Love You Baby and their flipsides. I too am an old fart (or whatever noun you wish to describe me). EPs were great as LPs were often split into 3 EPs, thus making them more affordable to those on limited pocket money. And many artistes issued stuff on EP only, Beatles, Elvis, etc. There were quite a few Tamla EPs, think some may quite collectable. As has been said they were later described as maxi singles, sure the 3 before 8 would have been called that. Last EP (or maxi single) I bought new was by Little Anthony & The Imperials, Hurts So Bad, etc. but can't remember when.
August 12, 201014 yr Didn't Kev do a couple of 4 track e.p.'s to promote some compilation albums he was doing, I remember one had a black label with red writing with classic N/S tracks like Little Togetherness or maybe Countdown ( sorry can't remember titles- what was his label before Goldmine when he did some fab comp L.P.'s ?) Also remember another one had Nomads "Something's Bad" amongst the 4 tracks, my copy was a white label promo, so not sure what the released label looked like. Personal fave e.p. is the Major Lance one with "Think Nothing About It"
August 12, 201014 yr driving beat willie mitchell ..... us hi champion original only on EP It's originally off the Driving Beat LP - the EP aka mini LP was issued for jukeboxes only.

Personal fave e.p. is the Major Lance one with "Think Nothing About It" It was the Soul Supply LPs from the 80s. (Kev Roberts) Kent did 1 or 2 as well one of them had Danny Monday on it. Also at least one of the Town 45s and one of the 100 Club 45s were EPs.

August 12, 201014 yr Think the label was either Destiny or Inferno.....Get mixed up with him and Neil Rushton... Kev was Destiny, Neil was Inferno, from the 70s I think he's on about Kev's Soul Supply from the 80s..

August 12, 201014 yr anyone here got a link or clip explaining the actual audio differences that cramming the tracks on to 7 inch format (eg the grooves closer) makes i could have a go but sometimes my way of explaining things aint as good as the experts would say it is something to consider espically with 45 rpm eps

Not sure if you would notice the loss of quality much, unless you have really expensive audio equipment. Stu.
August 12, 201014 yr Good answer,Stu,and weren't the grooves a lot closer together... I think your on the money with the grooves Phil every time you play an album track out the R F gain is usually maxed out!!

Stu. yeah actual volume is the obvious difference speed is supposed to be a factor as well - 45rpm being choosen as a standard as it was the optimun speed own ears would say the quality difference is notable guess you could argue that has to be, other wise they wouldn't have bothered as said, anyone got one of them clips from some geek-audio site that lays it all down in black and white ?

August 12, 201014 yr Soul Supply just leapt into my head, could that be it ? Yeah, it was soul supply. The red/black had Eddie Foster, Appreciations, Flirtations and Younghearts 45 rpm. The white label was Cecil Washington,Nomads,Elusions and Traditions 45rpm. Got 4 or 5 copies of each in a soul pack at the time. Also in that soul pack were copies of 33rpm ep with Invitaions, Formations,Producers. Candelite was the label on that one.
