Did this record actully exist or was it a cover up ?

I have never seen a copy up for sale & havent heard it since the late 70s/ early 80s when it was huge .I hated it at the time , but feel cheated that I can't seem to hear it again to remind myself how bad a record it was

Any info anyone ?

Craig Moerer has one for $80 - I think that's a litle steep - I would have thought about £30 tops - he has the spelling as "LOWNLY CROWDE" - I know the "Crowd" had an "E", on the end, but I'm not sure if the "Lownly" is a typo though (Scan anyone ??)

I have one.....the Action version is better. This is more baroque pop with cellos and an instrumental version on the flip...........think the Left Banke.A.I like it a pop record but not as a northern record

Pretty sure the Instrumental was played in favour to the vocal, well it was in these parts (East Anglia) anyway. I have a black issue in the box.

There's a great baroque pop version by The Byzantine Empire on Amy too. I think the song writer and former child star Eddie Hodges recorded his own version as well, but I haven't heard it.

I only know The Action's version. I like it, but always thought it bears more than a passing resemblance to, "Good Vibrations".

Just found it on youtube now I have the correct spelling (Thanks ). I didn't realise there was a vocal , I only remember the instrumental getting plays

Eddie Hodges' version is

a) the original and

b) absolutely STUPENDOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, it renders all other versions redundant, including the Action's....

It's also stupidly rare - to this day it holds the record for being the longest-lasting record on my wants list, staying there from 1976 (when I first heard it courtesy of Ady) until 2001.

It's beautiful 'Pet Sounds' influenced psychedelic pop - which is hardly surprising as sometime Brian Wilson collaborator Tandyn Almer co-wrote it, and Curt Boettcher was also involved in its creation - and not at all what you would expect from producer Ed Cobb and arranger Lincoln Mayorga.

Eddie also had a few other good 45s from around this time, including the original of the Rockin' Berries' "The Water Is Over My Head" which - unlike "Shadows And Reflexions" (to give it its proper title!) - came out here on Stateside

great "wigan" mover, the vocal always reminded me of the childcatcher type story out of chitty or a transylvanian horror movie with vincent price but it was the instrumental i layed when i dj at the casino. played around 78/79 i think and wasnt covered up. aother cracker from the sme time was peter jarrett and the fifth circle, run run baby run, mgm too, covered as the velours, both tunes remeniscent of the main hall.........still got both to this day, 20 or 30 quid i would say
