Ive tried to be tolerant ,keep an open mind and accept the fact not everybody is wired up the same but...it's finally hit me .

Have been a member on here for a few yrs and had contact with a lot of members via pm ,usually regarding sales ..me buying and me selling etc.

But after a lot of deliberation ive come to the conclusion ...some people who post in the wants ,more than any other forum ,have got to be the most ignorant t**ts ive had the misfortune to deal with

WHY cant people be curtious and just reply with yes or no??

Its not just regarding something i am offering from my sales ,but even doing a favour and posting a link to one for sale elsewhere

I don't want a pat on the back ,but seriously it's down right pure ignorant to not reply to someone who specifically states in a pm .."im offerning it your way 1st as youve posted in wants ..let me know asap if you do or dont want it ,so i can put it in sales for someone else"

Well if its gonna be in here ,then i'll re-open it for serious discussion ..but its for the attention of people who post in wants ,so why not keep it there ,after all ,they are probs too ignorant to read anything being discussed

But I reckon it's better to be discussed rather than blanket condemnation of wants posters.

Opposing view is why should you reply to some chancer who offers you a 45 for two or three times the price offered by others other than to ask "why?"

Not that a polite acknowledgement isn't the best approach.

people offered records in wants............. they say they want them then ...................................nothing....also people reserving records up for sale then .................................nothing ..fair do`s if you change your mind just let the seller/buyer know, most of us are nice people. ive had a few lately in both wants and sales. not naming and shaming coz thats not nice.....but its very frustrating especially when your trying to raise funds for summat else

If I posted up a want I would always reply if someone offered me a record or pointed me the direction of one, it is only courtesy

If members are letting other members down on a regular basis how do you expect anything to be done about it if you dont raise it with me as the forum moderator by PM.

And sometimes, as a recent incident showed, nothing to do with being ignorant but inexperience in using PM system.

while I don't condone this behavior at all, it is easy to miss PMs if you don't use soul source a lot as the new defaults are set up to not email you at each PM. Also, if you get more than one PM it's easy to miss.

Really annoying when you get no response when all you have done is try to help someone out. I once sent a stateside demo to someone on SS as he said his mate was collecting them. i sent it at my expense and free of charge. Ok.. it wasn't an expensive record,but even though i PM'd the member to ask if his mate got the record ok, i never got so much as a thanks..kiss my arse..or f**k you in response.....UNREAL!

It could well be a BS excuse but you can see if and when and when the PM was read or not.......if it was then no excuses, I would leave negative feedback for them in future although I've largely given up replying to wants. If nothing else others can see they are time wasters.

I'm not talking about the little red number though. If members send you messages after you were last on here, when you click into your messages they are the only messages that appear.

i've even took pictures to send with pm's on wants & most of the time,no reply.

left hand side of the message, say participants and underneath this involved in the PM, i.e. the sender and the recipients. It hen tells you if read or not and the time read...or is this something just Mods see?????

For Fecks sake its not that hard to just say no thanks your price is too high or I want it in better condition etc.

Then an hour later he sends another PM apologizing and giving me payment info. I got the record in the mail today actually.

Still not making excuses for the many people who blow off PMs, just saying that missing a PM clearly happened in this case.

I'm not really a busy seller by any means, but sometimes a want is posted that I can help with, every time almost I wish I hadn't bothered, but time passes and I fall for it again,

When I updated the Sales guidelines I didn't look at Simsy's pinned tips/notes in Wants.

I'll edit those after Xmas when I have some time to include something along the lines of replying to PMs. If anyone has any suggestions as to what else to include please PM me. Of course that won't solve it overnight as it's quite evident from my modding so far that reading guidelines is a low priority for some.

If members have problems with people reneging on orders etc let me know. I can't force them to honour their commitment but it will help eventually to identify any serial offenders.

I disagree with this. The "make an offer" thing is usually wishy-washy and I always feel like the seller is fishing for some crazy high offer. I would much rather have someone state the price they would sell it for. It sounds like you are not committed to actually selling it if you just are willing to sell if someone makes an insane offer. If you were committed to selling it you would know the minimum amount that you would consider selling at.

PM like email is a user-oriented medium - we all think it's sent so job done

Then again people have real lives - things happen and sometimes emails and PMs don't get read, or not properly

I'm on here quite a bit, but always rushed off my feet

Sometimes I will be able to read a PM about a record immediately. Other times it may be a few days.

If I post a want, probably like many others, I may want to see what offers come forward before replying.

Sometimes, occasionally, I will read a message - so it shows as read - but I'm not in a position to reply - either because I need to consider, or I am maybe just rushing to pick up messages while in the middle of something else.

Rudeness, and lack of courtesy is one thing - being busy, as many people are, in a world that expects an instant response to every sent email or PM is something different I think - expectations are sometimes too high

I take a pretty laidback approach to people letting me down Pete with sales but obvious from this thread and others that it does rile some and create bad feeling.

And a ballpark figure is something we've talked about before which I think is a good idea but then we had the argument why put a price when you may get it for less without stating a price.

Can't make that compulsory but can recommend as an option when I re-do Wants notes.

With offers - I think it's always good to name a minimum bid - to avoid misunderstandings etc.

I also think bids on anything should be based transparently on proxy bidding - an increment above the next highest bid - rather than blind. After all, if you were in an auction room you would know what the last person had bid

Fair point Pete but you should still know what you want for it. If people have to 'bid' you probably are going to get a price you then have to haggle over - no?

What if I offered you £30 - what I want to pay - for a £60 record - that you want £70 for?

For me it's always the seller states the price - then accept or haggle if necessary

Richard I'm not talking about bids or auctions, someone posts a want - willing to pay £40 - I might have it but didn't really wanna sell it and value it at £60+ so I won't respond, it wasn't for sale in the first place,

The answer to your scenario is simple , post a follow up in your ad , stating your sorted and thanks to everyone who sent messages .

Laid back my arse ... If you've posted a want and 6 people replied ,it must have been a real tough one .

If someone is in the situation you are in where you will only sell if someone pays you enough money, that's fine, but I totally want to avoid people like that because they are usually unreasonable and looking for way more than the value. Most aren't even "sellers", they are collectors fishing for high prices. This is not directed at you, maybe you are very reasonable with your expectations, but in my experience that's not how it goes with most people.
