One person's 'floor clearer', is another persons 'must dance' record, you'll have to check the flyers more closely. I'd be a bit surprised if there's a northern DJ who hasn't heard of 6x6 maybe
I have just come back to the spin-drops scene, I call it that because pre 1972 there wasn't the term Northern Soul I think (could be wrong I suppose) but when you mention an old standard like 6x6 Earl van Dyke people quite often have never heard it or its a mission to get it. Its great to see the old Wiganers dancing and I will have a go at some of their faster favorites.
HOWEVER
Quite surprised when out at the DJ's who get their records out who put on one floor clearer after another. When you do something wrong you either feel pain or see the damage your doing. To go through a train of records one after another and everybody is looking at the stage waiting for something to come alive to, why can't the DJ sense this?
Not naming any names because I don't want to upset anybody but with all the swop around DJ's doing the rounds its hard to find a venue you believe will be alive most of the time as their seems to be at least 1 or 2 dead spots in the night. I wonder if people are just trying to sell some obscure records they can't shift? Is it me or does modern sound like something Elvis managed to kill off?
