Not for the chinstrokers, but to keep the dancefloor full.

Aint no mountain high enough.

Your gonna love my baby.

Little Darling.

Lonely, Lonely girl am I.

Helpless.

Back Street.

Something about you.

Heaven must have sent you.

I`m still loving you.

You`re not an ordinary girl.

Just look what you`ve done.

Thats my baby.

Suspicion.

Same old song.

Just a little misunderstanding.

Ask the lonely.

Over played or not they would do for me.

Keep playing it!!

Hurrah for "Whole Lot Of Shaking" !!

I DJ'd with Jo Wallace at last years YKSoul all dayer in York, now I've been out of the way for a couple of years so when halfway through the set I looked at her next record I was shocked to see "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".

Are You Joking? (says I)

Watch the floor (says Jo)

Needless to say the floor filled in seconds as it started.

I had no idea this was or would get played, Imagine my surprise ..... as they say

I've got one finishing on ebay today anyway

Cheers

playing aint no mountain high enough must be a joke, or must be considered a joke from any respectfull rare soul fan

nice to hear some brave d.j at the last winsford play the Fantastic Four-Pin point it down-Soul, incidently other tunes by the same lad all had something that goes amiss these days, obscure, never or hardly played and top notch dancers to an all but empty dancefloor, i did six or severn consecutive moves, a rare thing outside the likes of butch/brown/hennegan/smith etc

Well done that man!

Who was it?

anyway look out for the above tune, you'll be amazed you never heard it before/or just how good you never remembered it!

The Temps version of Save My Love For A Rainy Day also cracking tune. I feel another Motown CD coming on!!

A cracking piece of Detroit soul first .... Motown second ...

Very similar to the Gambrells "You Better Move" ...... just as good ... maybe even better ... imo of course

Heard "aint no mountain..." on Sunday afternoon at Whitby weekender and thought it sounded great but assumed it was a one off. However having heard it a few times since it has worn a bit thin for me.

Considering theres loads of underplayed motown it seems a bit dull to be hammering the chart stuff particularly at Northern venues...Thought that was what Motown nights were for.

I also love Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself and Isley Brothers - This Old Heart of mine don't care if they so popular they are Northern classics and deserve a play all the time, just classics what can't be tired of play

Other classics

Stevie Wonder - Nothing's Too Good For My Baby

Isley Brothers - Stop in the Name Of Love

Diana Ross and the Supremes - Baby I Need Your Loving

If you don't know how good 'Pinpoint it down' is, go listen to it on Soul Satisfaction 4 or 5 where I extol the virtues of this track...cheap as chips and a top tune....grab a copy now - it's in my box - it should be in yours :shhh: I wasn't joking when I played 'Ain't no moutain' - it was a charity alldayer (which was HUGELY successful and one of the best organised events I've dj'd at) with many 'non rare soul' people there who were just out to support the cause..........so sue me :shades: Other Motown tunes.....

Isley Bros - alt. take of 'My Love'

Frances Nero - Fight Fire with Fire

Liz Lands - Midnight Johnny

LaBrenda Ben - Chaperone

Singing Sammy Ward & Sherri Taylor - Lover

Tommy Good - Baby, I miss you

Martha Reeves - Taking my love

David Ruffin - Rode past the place

Barbara McNair - Steal Away

Odyssey - Battered Ships/ Our Lives

I'm sure I'll think of some more...... laugh.gif Jo

Oh I almost forgot - Ain't no mountain high enough - Funk Brothers - is fantastic, the more you listen to it the more you forget the vocals and appreciate what a fantastic backing track it is. Found it on a Motown Karaoke cd mis-titled as "Just my imagination" by the Temptations.
