We're really looking forward to this

Planning to get there early and stay late, even have a hotel booked so we don't have to worry about taxi's to a mate's house (I'm sure someone would have put us up  ).

I also hear they have fresh pizzas served til late, so there's no excuse to leave!!!

Lots of great soul, lots of soul food... and a bar to prop oneself up with.

Twelv..vvvvvvvvvvve hours of soul..... wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

m

ps..I really miss my London mates - any of you coming along???

Anyone ?

Yes you will have still to pay from 8.00pm upstairs.

We couldn't make it a free event really, with the location of the room, the equipment & 12dj's....

Upstair room is a very nice set up, Wooden dance floor & a brillant sound system with it's on Bar & clock room too.

Take care & Hopefully CU there.

due to a licensing/times mix-up at the venue

we've had to make some (very) last minute changes to the schedule.

it will now be from 1pm-1am

it's STILL 12 hours

......STILL free downstairs (1pm - 8pm)

......STILL only £1 per hour upstairs (8pm-1am..-now£5 instead of £7)

we hope this doesn't disrupt anyones plans too much.

here's the revised schedule:

then

Well, what can I say. Great venue and a very, very enthusiastic bunch of soulies keeping the floor busy virtually all night. Must say it was a privilege to spin some of my tunes but was even more surprised that I played a full set without putting on the wrong side whistling.gif .

Congrats to Yan, Ady and Andy for having the nuts to put this on and then the grace to carry on when beset with venue issues. You should be proud.

My plays included

Ken Jones - Chicken pot pie - Almont

Willie Jones - Where's my money - Mr Peacock

Sherry Taylor - He's the one that rings my bell - Queen

Charles Sheffield - Voodo Working - Excello

thanks for your posts,

& your presence on the night.

Duncan3 .........(was great to meet you & Steph)

Geoff .......... good to see you,& the several other MonuMentalists there.

nick hackett

boogaloo

cheers for the playlists & finnesse guys!

(should have some more good photos up soon!)

a big thank you to ALL the djs,

whose strong individuality & spirit were so evidently

appreciated by the energetic,

dedicated dancers from far & wide.

(lost count of how many nationalities!)

-alongside the usual (London) suspects

we all know & love :)

also always a pleasure to see the record dealers

making a presence.

last but not least;

thanks to

Yann , Ady & Tony

for staying the course.

(& for putting up with me!)

if you haven't had a look already,

check out some photos of the event here:

https://web.mac.com/yannvatiste/iWeb/Soul-F...l%20Photos.html

(more photos & news to follow....soon...)

P.S.

anyone notice that bank of four hefty subwoofers, sat on the dancefloor,

(even if you didn't see them you would've felt them)

-they really came into their own;

as the more the dancefloor filled up;

the sound just got meatier,

-though without ! loss of definition.

(wish more venues would see the light!)

Really agree with you on this Andy, a set of subwoofers, can really put an edge on 60's soul music and can make it come alive, you can here bits in the record you dont usually hear, through a normal system, at the end of the day alot of smaller venues run on a tight budget so can rarely afford the high quality system, it pays off though if you do IMO :)

I had a fantastic time at this, one of the best dos I've been to in London for ages and ages.....

Big luv to Luppers and the crew, great venue, great atmos........

Also thought Pete and Nick played awesome sets.

Had a giggle at the other do afterwards too, had the pleasure of playing a few bits alongside Mr Hackett who lined up the Little Richie for me.......nice :)

Cheers

Baz

absolutely,

many venue owners think still only in terms of wattage/decibels,

often ignoring speaker positioning or accoustics.

used to play one place in Rio where some "genius"

invented a system of speakers sunken into the ceiling, like spotlights

pointing straight down onto the dancefloor,

and pounding the top of the poor punters heads!!

-i call those the nurofen years

-when i asked this Sage of club design what was his reasoning behind it,

he gestured at the walls and said with a proud smile,

that's how i managed to accomodate the total, wraparound mirror walls

:)

priorities of the (clueless) stinking rich eh!!

-mind you it was in Copacabana :D

&......

i DID see a similar set-up in Croydon :)

i think most venues are used to the "throw shedloads of money at the problem"approach

instead of thinking it through logically;

(or at least.. getting competent advice before going ahead).

what really impressed me about Clockwork (upstairs) is that it is obviously designed,

& built

around the Dancefloor (where as so many recent "re-furbs" seem to be built around the bar now,

with the dancefloor, reduced to being almost an afterthought!)
