Jimmy Delphs - "Almost" - which came out first - Carla or Karen?

      Yes, you're spot on Jim - the Atco is Canadian.   It's a Canadian version of the Karen release with "Don't Sign The Paper" on the a-side. The catalogue number on the Atco lab

As Mark has said, Carla. There was a thread on here not long ago. I'm sure discogs shows the Karen release as a year later but would have to double check. Great record by the way!

came out in 1967  as the `A` side on carla then stuck on the `B` side of dont sign the papers baby on karen in april 1968..this was his most successful 45  reaching no 29 on the soul charts and even making no 96 on the billboard hot 100 and no 94 on cashbox in june of 1968

Check out Betty Lavette's version on Karen - just pips Jimmy Delph's for me!

Betty's version is good but its let down with the flip, at least the JD Carla has two cracking sides.... value for money :)

I used to play Bettys version as an ender to my spots in local nights in Plymouth late 70s early 80s. You probably didn't hear it there!!!!!

The original version of " I've been fooled before " is by Verble Domino on Toi Records out of Chicago .Verble is actually Sherman Nesbary who cut " Don't make me sorry " in the 70's .

ive seen an italian atco jukebox 45 also..makes you wonder it was a hairsbreadth away from getting a uk release on red atlantic in 1968
