HI BROTHERS & SISTERS, May I wish all of you the very best for 2016, & I for one am so glad to see the back of 2915, after at times feeling so ill & in constant pain,  as you may be aware I have completely neglected the thread for most of the year, more of that later, but first can I thank those of you who have kept the club running through out 2015, .

Do I need to explained the rules are so simple, 10 you must own the record on vinyl to make a posting, 20 hopefully your choice will be a 45 seldom played or new to the forum, 30 any comments made should be about the record nothing else, 4) this thread is not for selling records or for promotion of events please/

The first record of 2016 is from C L Blasthttps://youtu.be/qstR_oUoT-k  A great bit of soul my copy cost £10 but have seen it sell for £100+ HOPE YOU LIKE this 5 STAR rated 45 KTF in 2016....DAVE K

A bit of Motown from me today & what a belter, can't believed this isn't a monster?

David Ruffin-I Pray Everyday You Won't Regret Loving Me Motown

Sounding very darkly Detroit to my ears, flip the effervescent Try A lttle Harder for the Fi-Dels

Bob Refl composition You Never Do Right (My Baby), Keymen/Jay Boy UK.

I didn't realise that some of these Jay Boy's have become quite expensive - after 40 years I still find it hard to take

the label seriously, though all credit to President for knocking the tunes out.

Posting this one up from a damp bank holiday break in Whitby while taking a bit of shelter. This one i first heard on an early Goldmine Northern CD and its a marmite record. Some say it got plays at Cleggy and even the Casino but cant realy find owt much about it really.Perhaps you guys could enlighten me.

Always had a soft spot for a bit of white pop because of the memories invokes in me but would I want to hear this out these days......no.

Cheers

A mate of mine (Keeper on here) has been trying to put some tunes up on the thread but he's such technophobe he can't do it  So here's one from him..........

Yep know what you mean i did say it was a marmite track but it does have a following in some circles and its quite a rare record too.Let me address the balance and put up for you one of thr most soulful tunes ever played on the Northern scene and one safely resting in my box

Me too.

One that often gets overlooked (B side of "Candy")

I totally agree, I played this at Walsall record fair to Mick Smith & Roy Gelder (top UK Collector) 15 years ago & asked them to name the 45 no problem for Mick but Roy was like a double take brother with it, I bet that you play it at most soul nights & only a very small number will get it right. great group great Soul. NICEONE.

Going through a few of the old wants lists , invariably scribbles (often illegible) on scraps of paper and found I'd got this one outstanding - now sorted

Bit Psych , nevertheless a cracking tune in my book, love the hammond organ break.

Much underrated.

Currently put this one on Ebay, having a limited budget , I need to turn over a few tunes

to refresh the collection. Some people rate it anyway.

I don't like marmite, but love this.

Sunshine pop it may be, but it's got the groove.

Nice one.

deserves to be absolutely massive, but seems to be around in too much quantity at the moment, guess they'll all dry up someday, we'll realise there were only a few hundred of the stock, and then everyone will want one.

Agreed mate i got mine about 5 years ago and its deffo one i would not part with. Its also availlable as David Morris on the Radnor label, exactly same tune so its not too hard to find at least one of the two releases.

Been taking an interest in UK Jay Boy releases of late.

Found this one interesting as I can't see any reference to a US release.

As I understand it was recorded in UK, possibly the same group who were also touring UK clubs under

various group banners during the late 60's. I believe that it's one of the rarer releases on the label.

Quite a few threads on here about Jay Boy, here's one if anyone's interested:

Sorting through my records to decide whether to keep or sell I came across this one by Wendy Rene. Sheer Class!!!!

Agreed - 'sheer class' indeed it is .

One I heard on Saturday night at The Irish Club, think it was Cliff Steele who played it.Same backing as El Anthony, bought mine thinking I'd never get an El Anthony but have managed to bag one of them as well:thumbup:First heard Jumping Joan play it at Frobisher in the 90t's.

I've always thought it's a descent dancer but have thought it's always well over priced  when I've seen it,on occasions seen it for 3 figures....what's that all about????If I saw one for £20/30 I'd probably give my piggie bank a rattle to see it there was any pennies for it :D

Must admit never seen an issue?

Has it had plays at any time?

Cheers

Agree with your comments mate.Think the issue is rare and i have seen it for sale at £200.which is far too much in my opinion. It has the Stafford flavour but im not sure it ever got spins there. The flip is a nice beat ballad.

Patto

I had it pointed out to me while I was out on Friday night that I hadn't put up any "Carmen Miranda" music up recently :D

So thought I'd better put that right, this is a B side of an old Stafford stomper................

Know what you mean - just a bit loose I think, reminds me of Claude Huey 'Drifting' or Ozz & Sperlings 'Qualify', maybe not in that class but a cool tune all the same
