"My Ship Is Comin' In" - A song I always play when I buy a lotto ticket lol - but which version do you prefer? For me I love the first 3 and no apologies for including the Walker Brothers here, but the one that really stands out  IMO is Jimmy Radcliffe's version.

I don't know if there are other versions out there, but one I wish there was, would be by Kenny Carter - I could just imagine that it was written for him and how he would interpret it.

Walter Jackson for me absolutely nails this song, far better than the others.

 

Walker Brothers a bit limp, Walter is excellent but Jimmy's is by far the best IMO.

I certainly like Jimmy's version of Forgotten Man better than Gene McDaniels though enjoy both.

Geoff the Buck Ram Platters was later early 70s I think and tied up to a show Buck Ram's version of The Platters were doing in Las Vegas.

Hiya, only just listened to buck ram platters, different but nice, thanks geoff

Buck Ram Platters version went down pretty well in my set at The Cotton Club At the last Soul4real Weekender in Bilbao last October. A great an unusual version. I must admit though that Jimmy Radcliffe's version does me up like a kipper as they say.

It is such a great song you would have to be a pretty poor singer to mess it up!

I'm with you there, the best version by some distance IMO and one of my absolute favourite 45's

Jimmy Radcliffe a bit rushed, Platters a touch lightweight, but everything about the Walter Jackson version - the pace, the production, the dynamics, his totally unhinged vocal, the way he says 'Baby!' going into the last chorus. The ending alone makes me want to kick chairs over or something

Yes according to Soul Harmony singles book which dates the BRPs version as 1978.

Listening again you are right, the Platters is a great version
