SOUL SOURCE RECORD CLUB 2017

:hatsoff2:WOULD YOU ADAM & EVE IT, THE MACHINE IS BACK, AS YOU MAY BE AWARE MY MANY YEARS OF LIVING THE HIGH LIFE ON THE RARE SOUL SCENE WITH IT'S ALL NIGHTERS & ALL DAYERS, ESPECIALLY BACK IN THE 1970s, WHEN I LIVED IN LETCHWORTH, MY WEEK WOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS:- THURSDAY NIGHT, GO TO BEDFORD WITH MICK SMITH, FRIDAY WIGAN OLDIES BUYING & SELLING 45s IN THE BAR WITH MICK SMITH, ADY C, & PETE WID,  SATURDAY NIGHT BLACKPOOL MECCA (OR AS I USE TO SAY, GOING TO BLOCKPOOL TO SEE THE HALLUCINATONS). THEN ON TO WIGAN ALL NIGHTER, SUNDAY THE RITZ OR CAT WHISKERS OR SAMANTHAS ALL DAYERS, THEN MAKE MY WAY HOME, SO COMPARED TO SOME PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN THE NORTH, US FROM THE SOUTH REALLY HAD TO BE PASSIONETTE ABOUT SOUL MUSIC...OR BLOCKED?

SO THE LAST FEW MONTHS, MY HEALTH HAS WORSENED, WITH TYPE 2 DIABETIS WHICH HAS LEFT ME WITH 50/50 CHANCE OF LOSING MY LOWER LEGS, SUSPECTED BOWL CANCER, HEP B&C, MY ADDICTION ISSUE PLUS OTHER STUFF, ALL LEADING ME HAVING TO TAKE 47 DIFFERANT TABLETS EVERY DAY, THEN THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH MY LAPTOP SCREEN, AFTER ME PUTTING MY FIST THROUGH IT LAST jANUARY AS I WAS IN A SULKING MOOD, BUT NOW I'M BACK, AS I have no sound files for these 3, if someone could put them on for me,

However I must show you the Craig Douglas on Indian $tateside don't know how rare it is but my copy is the only one i've seen, VALUE PLEASE

AT THIS TIME I MUST THANK YOU ALL FOR KEEPING THE CLUB ALIVE, SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO MIKE & A BIG THANKS TO KEV. I HOPE TO GET HIM A PINT IF HE GETS HIMSELF DOWN TO THE STABLE, JOHNNY BEGGS GETS THERE? 

SO HERE WE GO AGAIN, IT SEEMS THAT KEV MADE NO RULES FOR THIS THREAD THAT'S COOL, HOWEVER I STILL BELEIVE THAT ANY RECORD ON THIS THREAD, YOU SHOULD OWN A COPY (thats what the club is all about. picking a 45 from  your collection, it does not matter if rare, northern, beat ballard, funk, motown, or JA Soul, my preferance is rare UK SOUL & classic northern origanals).Scan_20170323.thumb.png.5c9c0462172b53224892df07625a763e.png

Been trying to work out what this reminded me of, and just realised it is basically a re-write of Soul Communicators 'Those Lonely Nights' on an earlier Fee Bee incarnation (1968 according to Youtube). Presumably I am late to the party and you lot knew all along?

    Vocal for me Patto,  Mel Hayes voice really adds to the brilliant music.

    Pier nighters a bit before my time Bruv but danced to it a few times at the winter Gardens.Vocal for me also but at the right time the Instro delivers as well.

    the "do you play your records at home" thread has prompted mew to try and play my records more often.
     tonight i pulled down a box from the back and immediately revisited this great track:

     

    Picked this up from one of Chris Andertons superb Dab of Soul radio shows recently - great stuff Chris. The absolutely stunning Made Up Mind from R J's Latest Arrival. Album only I think - just bought one.

    :hatsoff2:HI ALL....There I was living in yesteryear as usual, when I rememberd seeing Major Lance at the Top Rank Hanley, when I recalled 3 TAMLA MOTOWN songs 1)the Contors "baby hit & run" 2) the Isleys "tell me" 3) R Dean Taylor, I picked the RDT song because it was the one that made the charts, my 1st copy was on a budget LP, however 2 weeks ago I got a US copy from Mick Smith, in all tScan_20170406.thumb.png.841e5ef873e188118a3e26ba09571acf.pnghe years this was the first US copy I've ever had, I hope you have got a flashback to 1974.   my copies KTF

    I wonder who was actually responsible for first playing it out?

    Like you Dave , my first memory is buying it on one of those strange MFP Motown LP's including

    the Contours and Isley's. I do recall it being played to a packed dance floor at Wigan and despite

    it's chart success  and hammering, I still think its a great Motown production.

    Also worth a listen on those cheap MFP LP's is Kiki Dee's cracking version of "I'll Try Something New".
