Dave Rimmer
Just a quickie to say what a great night it was. All the DJs played great spots, and it went from Wigan Oldies, through Stafford, with R & B in abundance, some Crossover, quite a few rarities, and one or two unexpected cheapies. Link to comment

Dolly13
Neil Jones Logged into Dollys Soul Source acc due to login problems. Hi, I have to say I agree with all comments thus far. Last night was my first visit to the Marrs Bar and what a corking venue it is. Intimate, atmospheric, hot, sweaty, dark and laden with a tangible "fug" that just smells of Northern Soul All Niter! The music was outstanding all night, all styles and varieties catered for and a brill, open minded dance floor was packed all night. Loads of record dealers in attendance - no prizes for guessing where we spent half the night!! - and a great all round feel to the niter - We loved it. Pete Robinson had kindly asked me to spin a few and it was a real treat to play what was (hopefully) a nice broad set without feeling obliged to stay within the boundaries of predictability or safe-ness. Loads of familiar and friendly faces - an all round great night! For those who may be interested, my playlist as follows (order of some tunes may be mixed up from actual running order....) The Whispers Remember Soul Clock Sam Dees Lonely For You Baby (Alt take) Acetate Chris Towns Unit Turn To Me Port The Metros Since I Found My Baby RCA Jimmy Seals Yesterday Of Our Love Challenge That Girl Is Mine William Bell C/U (Alt version to Attractions) Al Gardner Sweet Baby Googa Mooga Eula Cooper Let Our Love Super Sound Mac Davis I'm Just In Love Columbia Montclairs Unwanted Love Paula Continental Showstoppers Not Too Young Seventy Seven Frank and James How Long Is Forever W E Records Stratoliners What Do You Want With My Love Federal Barbara Lewis The Stars Kent E J Chandler I Cant Stand To Lose You S.O.S Gene Toones What More Do You Want Simco J B Troy Live On Musicor Turley Richards I Feel Alright Columbia The Impossibles Its All Right Roulette Barbara Carr My Mama Told Me Chess Derek Martin (?) Flash Back Acetate Dickie Wonder Nobody Knows Golden Triangle Sweet Three Thats The Way It Is Decca My alloted hour completely flew by and seemed to be over as quick as it started but I enjoyed every single minute of it. Thanks to those who danced or just enjoyed the tunes I played. Congrats to the promoters on a great Niter - I hope to be back ASAP. All the best Neil J Link to comment
Guest Matt Male
Neil i probably should have introduced myself, i was the bloke who asked for the Harvey Averne Dozen The best night so far at what is always a cracking nighter. The breadth of musical variety was incredible last night, from Pete Robinson's R&B section to Molly's 80s and Neil Jones across the board, Sean Chapman taking us back in time to Cleethorpes with the best oldies, and even opening with 'So Is the Sun' followed by 'Ton of Dynamite' but it all worked perfectly. The Marrs Bar is a place where true across the board can happen because DJs are always guarenteed a near full dancefloor and the benefit of the doubt from a crowd who don't care about oldies vs. progressive, they just love soul music. The atmosphere great as always, probably the biggest record bar outside of Stoke at a regular nighter, and that's saying something in a place as tiny as the Marrs. I spent maybe 35% dancing and 65% talking and upstairs, although you can still see the dancefloor and feel part of the nighter from there, because the of the quality of the Soul Sourcers present. Great to see everyone. It was a truly friendly atmosphere. All in all, brilliant. If you haven't attended this nighter yet i recommend it. Matt Edited November 5, 2006 by Matt Male Link to comment

Guest in town Mikey
Had a nightmare Saturday. Plans were to go to the Villa night, and stop off at the Marrs on the way home. In the end I sat home waiting for a washing machine mechanic to come and help me pump the water from my kitchen to the drain out the back. It was nice to keep getting texts from friends at the Marrs telling me how much fun they were having tho. Grr Link to comment

Guest partytimegirl
Can only add to what has been already said, this was the best Mars Bar i have been too, the music was great lots of familar faces and i had a great time, it was sad that it had to end. I thought Dave Rimmer, Mace and Nig Brown did the best spots for me and Sean finished up the night on Anthony White 'Hey Baby' one of my top five at present and for the first time in 3 weeks i ventured to dance, after having pulled my ligaments at the recent Prestatyn weekener, this has been hell for me hearing great music and not being able to dance i have hated it. Pete this was a truly great night and i am sure everyone attended will agree, will be back soon. Billy i will bring sweatshirt and Bob to cardiff i promise, it will be a cracking night.
