After reading about Clapping and the sense that some no longer do clap i thought it would be a good idea to try and bring those memories back to you all,

So come on then can you remember the songs you used to clap to and what tunes you still clap too today.

list as many as you want and even put sound bites up so we can all have a clap now.

if you cant be bothered go read something else more interesting instead

There are claps in so many records, some even have nighter only claps, like "if I could only be sure". Nighter claps are the ones not picked up by soul night only goers  Crying over you, obviously. Thelma Lindsay, has some great clapping breaks. The three before eight, the list is endless

Lester Tipton, brings back memories of The Swan Hotel, taped in 88, still have it at home, on a battered old C90 tape, it still gives me goose bumps when I listen to the crowd. Brilliant.

At Yate we used to do the 'echo' 3 claps to Epitome of Sound - You dont love me, and Bernie Williams - Ever Again (Gene W was less popular I seem to remember) followed by a thunderous final clap.

At the Dome Wake up to the Sunshine girl was always clapped along too. It didnt seem to have the same impact elsewhere.

Stafford to my recollection didnt see that many tunes that had people clapping along. Tastes were changing. Flares were passe, but the Martells - Where can my baby be, always had a good crowd clapping along

I'm on my way is the obvious one. Watching Dean do that at Cleethorpes as we all clapped along is a never fading memory.

But for me the best is a rarely played tune nowadays but one that used to take the roof off at Yate.

Ben Zine - Village of Tears.

Some of those Wigan CDs that Mark F has are awesome, talk about spine tingling. And that's one of the main points I suppose, which events can you go to and feel like that nowadays?

This was my last ever 'Wigan'. That last year my trips had become less frequent, for all the reasons that have been discussed many times on here. I was attending other venues & enjoying them more. I had become worried that my memories were becoming jaded, so had decided this would be my last one. I travelled from Rosyth in Scotland as the ship I was based on was up there, as usual I travelled alone as most matelots were divs & the hassle with the DS made it less complicated for a service person.

It was a very emotional night for me............the end of my own Wigan era...........needless to say, that this night bucked the recent trend & was rammed & took me back to the hey day. Im not ashamed to say I cried, along with many others. We all know how they squeezed every last penny out of the place, but my memories as I hoped were not ruined by the last few months at Station Rd.....................this was the night Wigan Casino ended for me & that clip never fails to send me back with a wry smile & a tear in the old eye.

I still clap when I dance...............but I think that it is worth adding that without stating the obvious.................there are only certain places in records were you do clap, even records that you have never heard before you instinctively know were to clap. You see too many punters at Nighters who have no idea were the claps come in & just relentlessly clap away like fools & I think this is why to some extent others have kinda stopped doing the claps so they dont get tarred with the same brush.

That was probably the first record I heard at a venue - couldn't believe the tasteful way everyone clapped on the breaks. I instantly fell in love with the scene.

Stop Sign - Mel Wynn - good clapper if you could keep up with it!

Col

Sam Dees - Lonely For You Baby has a great clap break.

It's great to see new people on the scene instantly joining the clapping after seeing us "veterans" after the first break.
