July 19, 20195 yr Predictably a few nice Aussie ones, he had tracks on Top Rank, CBS also, and I’m sure some other Aussie labels... i have a question, James Browns drummer ‘Jabbo’ worked for Bobby bland before getting offered double what he was on at Duke, anybody know what tracks jabbo played drums on? All of the below...
July 19, 20195 yr Here is one that gets less attention I think... great beat, cool femme backing singer:-)
July 20, 20195 yr Oh dear now you have taken me back to school and when I was 14 at a Disco....this has always been my favourite
July 20, 20195 yr Blue moon - autographed by Bobby Bland after the Malaco Review at the Hammersmith Odeon, 1989. Other 45s autographed by Bobby Bland's guitarist Wayne Bennett, whom I had the great fortune to chat with for a good while at the cocktail party the evening before the concert.
July 20, 20195 yr Been a bit of a project these past few years collecting Bobby's Duke 45's. Two short of the US releases - his first and 369 (anyone got one out there?), I'm not sure the second variation of Duke 160 exists(?) and I only have his second release on a 78 - he only put two singles out on the label before his Army service. Including Demos, Label anomalies, EPs (French, Jukebox, UK), Canadian Dukes (and London), Australian CBS and UK Vogue, Vocalion, Action, Sue, I'm up to 94. I'm not so bothered about his ABC, MCA, Malaco 45's.....maybe i'll get around it☺
July 20, 20195 yr do you the label variations Mike? Remember having Cry Cry Cry on the earlier brown/ yellow label and I’ve had one on an orange label also... maybe the time the label change was made, and the different ones crept out of different pressing plants?
July 20, 20195 yr One of my wife's all-time favourites. I didn't know before she played it to me and it's one of my favourites too since then:
July 21, 20195 yr Mal - I have two label variations of ‘Cry Cry Cry’ with the second titled ‘Cry Cry’. Both are on the earlier brown/yellow. I don’t have an orange variation. ‘Ain’t That Loving You’/ ‘Jelly Jelly Jelly’ is the only one I have on both brown/yellow and orange. Mike
July 21, 20195 yr One of the greats. A very important and hugely influential artist. The Duke material is wonderful but I really enjoyed the ABC years and, in particular, some of his Malaco outings.

Mike Interesting they do turn up, so I’d have to check release numbers against dates, but there seem to be a fair few that got both label designs. I foolishly sold my orange label Cry cry cry, which I really wish I hadn’t... more Aussie Bobby bland:-)

July 24, 20195 yr One of the greatest artists of the last sixty years. Here's a rare duet with the little known Vi Campbell complete with a wonderful Joe Scott arrangement. Utterly beautiful and one of the greatest soul records of all time IMO. Have regular selected this cut when on the radio.
