You still hear those? Bloody hell i'd stop going to your usual venues if you're hearing these on a regular basis mate. I haven't heard Bobby Paris for about ten years.

I'd rather not hear T.J. Williams - Baby I Need You for a while, even though i played it on Saturday in a cynical attempt to get some more dancers up :D and even my beloved Sam Dees - Lonely for you baby i could do without hearing for a few years until it freshens up a bit.

For me it has to be Wade in the water, I'm not really an oldie myself only been into Northern for about 15 years but some records really grate and Wading in the water grates on me like finger nails on a blackboard.

Ruby Andrews, Ace Spectrum, Pat & Blenders, Delegates of Soul, Carla Thomas, Jackie Wilson ("Because.."), Chris Clarke, Billy Butler, Drizabone, Bari Track etc etc etc. :D

All either been overplayed at some stage in the last few years, or just don't like 'em.

Indeed! it's not the records fault that they're great tunes it's the djs & dancers who dictate the playlists.

Each to their own, I can't stand I Only Wanna Dance To What I Know (So You Must Only Play What I Know) by Boring Bob Spencer and the Casinoettes on the Stone Oldie label (Issue Number 666). Some people claim its a newie but I'm sure its been around for a few years now, does it share the same backing as Right Track? :thumbsup:

Its seems the Kev Roberts new/rising top 100 featured in the 2nd edition of the top 500 (confused?), get played quite a lot. Perhaps the DJs should play 400 to 500 for the next 12 months and work their way up.

Better still, pick some NOT in this book.

(As an example, I have a copy of the John Manship price list book, and hand on heart can say at the most, I think I know 40% of them. Thats about 12,000, so lots more for me to discover. Thats without even talking about stuff thats not in the price guide, lp tracks, etc etc.)

Totally off topic....Sean, Soul Police sit at the back of a venue, normally shrouded in darkness or blending into the Austen Powers patterned curtains. But wherever they are, you'll never see them....being annonymous is their weapon so they can move undetected from venue to venue. They can evade the doorstaff and enter a gig silently, unnoticed. They have a small black notebook and jot down any omissions or crimes against soul that djs or promoters commit. That could range from playing a record (s) that offends the ears of the Soul Police or a dj talking on the mike with a mouthful of pork pie. Any misdemeanor will be noted and reported back to anyone that can be arsed to listened to their copious reports. Ofcourse, you never see the Soul Police - they're always on a covert mission - undercover is obligatory. Some never leave the confines of their bedrooms and report on a venue by telepathy.....bluddy 'ell, I haven't taken gear for 25 years - I'm suffering from paranoia :D:lol: or am I :thumbsup: Jo PS. Most overplayed records....most of my set :D

I Remember you sold my copy Derek at the 100 club, I'd marked it down to 15 quid or something which I was going to change, anyhow on returning to the box from the bar it had gone!!! what I may have forgot to tell you is it had a bloody great hairline crack..

I was thinking the same Sean, but if it's a dig at who i think the answer is simple, if it wasn't for the so called 'Soul police, 'Anoraks' etc. we'd still be dancing to the same 20 records every night so instead of certain peeps having a pop they'd be better off showing some thanks for all the hard work the 'Soul police' have had to go through to bring them tunes they now take for granted.

Not many of the Soul Police around these days but they have the kind of zealous and smug 'you can't listen to that you must listen to this but i can't tell you what it is because i've covered it up and there are only three copies blah blah blah...' attitude that was very prevalent 25 years ago during the Stafford era.

There were loads of soul police around back then and you really did have to be on your guard that you didn't misname a track or admit you didn't know the width of the run out groove on a particular 45. :D You were always under watch not to step out of line in those days, if you didn't have 'I Love 60s Newies' tatooed on your forearm you were a marked man.

Glad those days are over but amazingly i still meet the odd one or two people that talk like they have just stepped out of a time machine from 1983 and seem not to realise that the rest of us just don't give a toss any more :thumbsup: .
