  2. I think there was a previous thread about record shops in London. Here are my suggestions - Alans Records East Finchley, Flashback Records, end of Brick Lane East London,Record Exchange Notting Hill, Crazy Beat Records Upminster. The Independent Record Label fair held once a year at Kings Cross Coal Drop Yards, First and Third Friday of the month Spitalfields Market Record Fair, Soul Brother Records East Putney. Happy crate digging
  3. I also attended the screening yesterday in Soho. Really enjoyable documentary just over an hour long, it was preceded by a shot film of some of the artists on the Symphonical record label, which also was very good. Some of the topics covered in the Q&A included references to Northern Soul, the Jamaican sound systems of the 60's playing soul music mentioning that a lot of the songs being played could be later found on the East Side Story LP's. Interesting quote in the film from one of the DJ's highlighted, Arlene Sepulveda that all the records they were collecting were in England and they were having to come over here to buy and bring them back home! The directors in the Q&A said they may make some minor adjustments based on feedback from the screenings before entering the documentary in various film festivals. Unable to stay for the after party, but I am going to start checking and paying more attention to the b sides in my collection to see if there any sweet soul gems I have missed. If you get the chance to see the film, well worth watching.
  4. All from 1975 : Gloria Jones Tainted Love on a purple Champion label which somebody pinched from my record box at a party along with the Fuzz I’m So Glad (original). Couple on Soul Fox, The Belles Don’t Pretend and the Four Perfections I’m Not Strong Enough, these would have come from either Jumbo or Virgin in Leeds, all less than a £1. Also remember having an Emi disc of I’m Your Pimp.

  23. With the lockdown, I am listening to quite a lot of soul on the radio. Heard a track on the Marc Collins show on Solar Radio at the weekend Sam Dees -Funny, said it was unreleased dated from around 1971 recorded when at Chess. The recording was from an acetate, the original version apparently is short just over 2.30, but the version played had been extended. Marc hinted that it would make a great release on a 7 inch and I would agree, what do others think? The show is on Mixcloud , the track is played after Starguard Which Way is Up around 1 hour 8 Minutes -
  24. I usually support Record Store Day, this year's event is on the 18th April, soul releases include the following: Timeless Legend Synchronized LP on Expansion. Willie Tee Teasing you Again (45 single on Gatur). Robert Parker I caught you in a lie (45 on Nola). Roy Redmond Ain't That Terrible (45 on Harlem Shuffle). Rare Pleasure Let Me Down Easy (45 on South Street Disco). Johnnuy Pate Shaft in Africa 2 x 45 on Dynamite Cuts. Appears to be mainly resissues, personally I would rather see new releases/unreleased material or previously download only released on vinyl for the day, any views?
