Darlaston all-dayer 19th July
Great playlist! I spun a couple of these at my gig on the 12th, for which I still have to post the list. Like the Natural Four, I guess we had the same thing in mind Best, Mark

A Xmas Soul Source Shout to All
It's Christmas Eve in Northeast Ohio and it's in the 50's outside...WTF? No, I'm actually happy that the weather is nice...for now. Hope everyone has a very soulful Christmas and a Happy New Year...now let's PARTY!! Best, Mark

Wendy Rene R.i.p.
A Seattle label called Light In the Attic released a comp of all her sides...I saw it in the downtown Cleveland library while trolling through the CD's. May have to pick it up to see if there's anything unissued. RIP, Wendy...hope there's some good Bar-B-Q up there for ya! Best, Mark

Jo Jo Benson found dead in Motel Room
RIP, Jo Jo...one thing I find a little odd. It says that he joined Chuck Willis as a backing singer in the early 1960's...that would be one nice trick if he did that, as Willis passed away in 1958!! Best, Mark

Pointer Sisters.... Madness
Found my copy in a thrift shop before I'd gotten into Northern...paid about 45 cents for a promo. I've always bought oddball things like that. Turned out to be a great tune! Best, Mark

Are There B Sides You Still Haven't Played?
I think somebody played the flip of the Voice Box 45 I picked up yesterday...I think I may have seen it on a playlist. Now that I have it, I should spin it. Best, Mark

Soul Track Of The Week
I paid the princely sum of a buck for mine...which, considering the condition, was probably all it's worth...but I always feel that having something in bad shape is better than not having one! Best, Mark

News: Soul Source Northern Soul Hall Of Fame Oct 2014
To add a little further about Ady...he constantly discovers unreleased tracks. He always brings lost labels to the forefront...who would have thought of LP's devoted to the works of Lee Silver, the Ben-Lee team and Bill Haney, to name a few? He's always worked hard to keep the music out there and accessible...I think that's one hell of an accomplishment! Best, Mark

Your Top 10 Northern Soul 'characters'
Tim Ashibende and Gene Merideth...the two guys who helped me learn more about Northern soul, expanding my knowledge about the music, starting a collection, etc. I'm still in contact with Gene. Tim and I sadly haven't chatted in a while. Ady Croasdell...I've met him in person twice in the States. Great guy and you gotta love what he does to keep the flag flying for Northern soul. Barry James...just a great, all-around personable guy. Hope he's doing well. Bob Hall...for a time, he was living south of Cleveland, in Akron. Another great guy. We used to run into each other at record shows. RIP, my friend. And, of course, everyone I've met online, many of you I've yet to meet in person...everyone from the KTF bunch to the Soulful Detroit Forum bunch to all the folks here and on Facebook. I enjoy chatting with you, the occasional record trade, just everything...I hope to make it to Chicago in late June and, hopefully, meet more people in person. God Bless. Best, Mark

Mr. Mark Dobson Aka Butch
Butch and I corresponded by snail mail years ago...seemed like a decent guy. And let's not forget his recently uncovered cover-up, the Mello Souls! Best, Mark

Soul Track Of The Week
I think they're both good...I have Betty Moorer, but it's really dinged up. Best, Mark

The Whole World Knows It...but Me
That's 'cause they never considered themselves a soul group...they were a doo-wop act! Best, Mark

Just Arrived In The Post (Or Just Bought)
Rock & Roll Flea Market earlier today at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland...not often this show gets a 45 dealer who knows his shit, but there was one there today. Bought these six: "Reflections of My Life"--125th Street Candy Store (Uptite promo) "Baby Be Mine"--Sweet Delights (Atco) "Just to Prove I Love You"--Oscar Weathers (Top & Bottom) "If This Is Love"--Precisions (Drew) "I Want It Back (Your Love)"--Voice Box (Loma) "You Haven't the Right"--Catalinas (Scepter) Those last two were in the $10 and up box he kept behind the counter. He had some corkers in there...Sam Fletcher on Tollie for $100, Skip Cunningham on 20th Century Fox for $60, Malibus "Gee Baby" on Sure-Shot for $50, and a few others...but the holidays are not the time for big money deals on my salary...LOL! Anyhow, the entire lot cost me $30...averaging out to $5 a record. I'm happy with that. Best, Mark

Trip To The States Record Hunting
Too bad you're not coming to Cleveland...I would've recommended a place or two. Best, Mark

Lyn Roman The Penthouse
I quite like her version of "Just a Little Lovin' (Early In the Morning)". Best, Mark

Returning Over Graded 45's To The Usa
I'm preparing a list of 45's for trading, right from here in the good ol' USA...I intend to be honest in my grading. Some of 'em may be G or VG, and I will tell you, straight up. I have always tried to be honest when trading with you guys over there. Best, Mark
-
Worst Vocal On A Record Ever
Othella (Othello?) Robertson...sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me! Best, Mark

Any Interest In These?
Dammit to hell, I meant to post this question in the General Soul Forum...oh well...no one's shown any interest in those anyhow. Best, Mark
-
Any Interest In These?
Wonder if these are of any interest to anyone here? I'm putting together a small batch for trading, and I wonder if these would work for anyone? Fred Johnson "Full Time Dream"/"I Need Love, I Need Your Love" (Capri 110, dated 1972, same label as Reggie Soul and Cam Cameron) Johnny Tame "Sand In My Shoes"/"Steak and Cake" (World Pacific 77875, Audition Record as they used to call those Liberty-distributed promos back in the day) Cookie Jackson on Reena...don't remember the songs, just that they're more deep than Northern...bought it cheap based on artist and label. Thanks in advance! Best, Mark

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
I like the flip of "Lady In Green", "Heart You're Made of Stone"...again, would I track it down for that? Probably not...I'd rather have the Professionals on Groove City! Best, Mark
-
Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
The best thing about the Tipton record is that the Masqueraders sing back-up on it. Would I want to track it down for that reason? Probably not...but at least, they make it slightly bearable. Best, Mark

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
Othello (Othella?) Robertson...I don't consider that singing, it's more like SCREECHING! On a par with nails on a chalkboard. Best, Mark

Sandy Williams
A promo of "Pushing a Good Thing Too Far" by Sandy Williams sold for $150 in the Facebook Rare Soul Sales group. My question is this...is there any sort of demand for this record? I have it, don't like it, and want to throw it in with a batch I have for trading. Thanks in advance for any input. Best, Mark

Turn Arounds On Era
