    Thanks vm for bringing this subject up Alan and all the replies. It’s finally persuaded me that the so called UK publishers acetate I bought (from a very reputable dealer) is dodgy and must have been a walk in commission job. I have asked other reputable dealers and all were interested, as it probably is a one off, but no different than an Emidisc of the time.

    In case you haven’t seen Steve Jeffries has a red Bard label copy of Eddie Hughes great Soul Searcher by the writer, Don Hysong on his site. It’s same backing and very similar to Bob and Fred’s Ill be on my way. Has anyone any info on them it’s a small Detroit label not sure if related to Big Mack which released Bob and Fred must be very rare - anyone heard either version played out the Don Hysong one is poorer voice imho Here is link to EH.

    Just dug out my six track seven inch EP of Down To Earth and damn it excludes the Angel Baby track. It does have the better (in my view) Hey Love track though. Really love the Brazilian one and it’s now on my wants....

    Vivian Copeland and Susan Phillips are very similar. BJE more sweet soul. All VCs three singles on D’oro are worth a listen if not a purchase especially the sublime I don’t Care with Oh No Not my Baby a la Maxine Brown and so many others - but a great version. SS had an interesting topic on SP some years ago as Discogs inferred she may also be aka Sharon Soul, but this is still a mystery. PT

    Have a lovely VG++ copy of this very rare monster tune. Never reissued or bootlegged except for a few poor carvers. Some would grade Ex but all these trophy presses had slight vinyl pimples which do not affect play. Am only selling to buy something else on auction ending soon. £2500 or would consider part trade, for other rare original - After an Incredibles stateside demo for example and Kitty Doswell. Like rare Xover. Below is identical pic but I can scan mine to any serious buyers. No cash offers below asking price please Paul T.

    That invitations SS demo should be worth well over £300 if in decent condition which it looks like it is. Very rare and hard to find sellers.

    Thanks Mike. I’m a big Chicago soul man and while I love the Artistics and am a fan of the Chilites the Three Shades of Soul tops it for me with the more upbeat xover style. I was lucky enough to meet Barbara Acklin when Ady C brought her over for a short tour with Ruby Andrews. Barbara mentioned she sang on many of the Brunswick records as back up singer including the Hi-lites then the Chi-Lites (eg I’m so Jealous). She co wrote Being in Love and possibly was one of the Three Shades of Soul -anyone know for sure and if so who were the other two. cheers Paul T

    I met DT a couple,of times once in Vegas where she was singing nightly with a three piece band in one of the Casino lounges. She joined me for a drink and chat at an interval and was very friendly and mentioned her time in the UK including her one release on Apple. Ady C then brought her over for a Cleethorpes weekender and she came with Barry St John who she knew from her previous time here. Lovely lady. Paul T
