I really enjoy listening to Sound of Soul but the music on this particular episode is outstanding.

Darrell Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart 2014 London
Hammer price was £15,000. Buyer pays the auction house the hammer price plus fees, thought to be 24% plus VAT if buyer was in the room. Auction House receives the fees. Seller receives the hammer price less commission. Standard sellers commission at Omega is 17.5% plus VAT plus a £3 lot fee although sellers commission can be negotiated for high value articles. Consequently the worst case scenario is that the seller paid Omega £3,153 for the privilege. Like bookies, the real winner here is the auction house.

Wessex Auctions Results 6 Mar
I did record the hammer price for about 95% plus of the Soul lots; JM bought significantly and Butch was happy having secured about a dozen of the acetates. Several of us were able to secure plenty of lots despite the heavy hitters whilst a couple of people in the room seemed surprised that "classic" items continue to attract large sums. In truth it was an enjoyable social day out.

Wessex Auctions Results 6 Mar
Had noticed this sale was happening before the announcements on here and since the Auction House is only 40 miles from home I thought I'd take the day off and try my luck. Nice to meet Butch, Tony Ellis and John Manship amongst others at the Sale. The top lots were outside my budget but did pick up a couple of Veep promos (Cindy Scott & Larry and The Larks) for £65 plus commission (20.4%) amongst other job lots. Top selling items were: Soul Thing/Miss Woman - Tommy Dent (Cobblestone promo) £2,900 + commission Time Will Pass You By/Heartbreaker - Tobi Legend (Mala promo) £1,000 +comm. Up And Over - Jay Traynor (ABC 1st pressing) £950 + comm. You Bring Out The Love In Me Baby - Unknown (UK KPM demo acetate) £950 + comm. I Travel Alone/Big Wheel - Lou Ragland (Amy promo) £900 + comm. Trick Me Treat Me - Yellow Brick Road (aka Cobblestone) (Mercury 1st pressing) £750 + comm. Please Keep Away From Me - Elbie Parker (Veep 1st pressing) £650 + comm. The World I Knew - Paul Wagner (Cobblestone promo) £650 + comm. You Got Me Where You Want Me/Tomorrow Without Love - Larry Santos (Evolution 1st pressing) £650 + comm. Too Darn Soulful/You Don't Love Me Anymore - Morris Chestnut (Amy promo) £550 + comm. Time Marches On - Lainie Hill (New Voice promo) £500 + comm.

BBC Msm northern soul alert - The One Show tonite
I've upvoted both Planesoul and Phantom Janitor's posts. They both list a number of events that cater for the broad church that enjoy soul music whether you like the 60's Tamla Motown and Top 500 or more esoteric, rare and underplayed sounds. There does seem to be enough events put on to keep all sides of the debate happy. Peace.

Blues and Soul Mag - Wigan 7th Annv
Reading B&S in 1980 it would seem that Jazz Funk had taken over the Soul scene. Frank Elson's column was about the only feature to focus on Northern Soul and that was about to be split in two to highlight Jazz Funk events in the Midlands and North. The only reference to the Casino's 7th Anniversary comes as an after event review (of sorts) titled Wigan Casino - The Last Anniversary in Frank Elson's column in B&S 315. Even the club adverts are all promoting Jazz Funk events, even in Manchester.

Poll: Vocal or Instrumental Battle - Luther Ingram
For me the excellent vocal from Luther Ingram takes the track to a different level. I do have one question though; how come the vocal version has a single writers credit - Wylie but the instrumental has four writers credits - Aikens, Ingram, Frye & Bateman?

The Rise And Fall Of HMV
The local HMV in Gloucester is closed although, I think, the Cheltenham store survives. Have, until the last six months, been a regular Amazon customer for CD's, but since I am buying more vinyl I am looking at small independent shops, direct from the label or specialist mail order companies

The Chandlers/David Bowie
Wasn't Luther involved in the arrangements on the Philadelphia sessions that became the Young Americans LP? More likely he would have heard the Chandlers track don't you think?

Show us your great photos (2019)
Unfortunately not, that would have been too Twilight World. Stayed in Penally and got the train in. Manorbier is a lovely little village we visited whilst there. Hadn't been to Tenby since I was a kid. Came on this thread to get some tips on camera purchases. Was considering a Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000 as its got good reviews but have any of our erstwhile David Bailey's had any experience of using it?

Show us your great photos (2019)
WTF Steve just spotted this post. I was also in Tenby on 5th and 6th June with the wife for my birthday; stopped in Carmarthen on way home on the Friday and got soaked! Can certainly vouch it was hot on 6th though; burned the top of my head as I hadn't thought to pack a hat for the trip. By the way Tomangoes, I can offer another recommendation for evening meal at the Baytree Restaurant in centre of town. Apologies to Mods for going off topic......

New Diggin’ Deep 45 (Jerry Miller)
Gutted. Misread the announcement on Tuesday completely and thought pre-order was from today. Been away for a few days for my birthday, got home and first thing was to log on and order a copy only to find I missed out. Doh! Can only blame myself....
