  1. Thanks Tabs Mark
  2. Hi, Can someone please clarify which label Love Changes/Can You Win was first released on - Paradox or Volt Many Thanks Mark C
  3. Probably not bur he had definitely bouffed it up for the night
  4. I was there at the night Major Lance performed. He had a perm and I think it was Dave Evison who said we had been tricked and it was in fact Tommy Hunt!! Mark C
  5. Northern purists at a night of Northern/Motown/RnB/Funk/Ska? That is surely a contradiction. Mark C
  6. I think it's some of the old feckers that are ruining it, people in their 40s and 50s that don't have a clue. One local night simply says "vinyl only" and frowns at cds but surely some cds are legitimate unlike pressings? Not that I am condoning cds being played. Mark C
  7. The promoters aren't on here to my knowledge. They are on facebook. Mark C
  8. I was a regular at The Fleet from 1978 until the mid-80S. Have several live tapes so I'll go through and put some tracks up. Steve G is right, The Fleet was always oldies based with certain DJs such as Guy Hennigan and Chris Plant brought in to spice things up. In one of Chris Plant's sets he played things like Freddie Williams and had to revert to oldies because hardly anybody was dancing. Mark Chamberlin

I first witnessed RnB being played by a guy called Clarence who did a spot at Stoke Kings Hall. Can't remember the date but early 90s? From memory he came from a club in Manchester (Clarence at the controls). Mark C
  10. Went to watch Norwich play at Wigan a few seasons back, we had Dean Parrish IOMW at half time and The Elgins HMHSY as we left the ground. Didn't Wigan Athletic have a Northern Soul day fairly recently? Mark C
  11. I was there that night Steve, wasn't Bunny Sigler live on stage? The promoters of the other all-nighter were responsible and received custodial sentences. It was a few months after the IRA had bombed an army barracks in London and was, quite correctly, treated very seriously. Regarding the clash of venues, Frank is right, just do your homework. Promoters of the more quality events try not to clash, you're always going to find numerous events on the same night but just go where your heart and soul leads you...
  12. Barbara Windsor behind the bar at the next 100 Niter - "Get outa ma cluuuubb !! Mark C
  13. Add Emmerdale to that list...
  14. Yeah, I remember the Bradford advert now! Thanks for your replies Mark C
  15. Hi, I can't remember the term rare & underplayed being used until fairly recently. Can someone enlighten me as to how it came about please? it was simply northern or rare soul back then. I guess it's used to make people aware that if you go to an event of this description you're not going to get (many of) the top 500 played (in other words stay away if you only like the predictable stuff) Thanks Mark C
  16. Paul was one of the dancers I used to love watching on my visits up north, RIP mate.
  17. A friend of mine has/had the Sun double page spread. I'll ask him at the match later if he still has it Mark C
  18. Yes, I did the weekender there last year. Really good, several venues dotted around the city (absolutely wonderful place btw) - it isn't on this year so not sure if it was an experiment. I have also done Bamburg and Hamburg, Rimini and Cannonball in Italy, Madrid Niter and making a return trip to Hamburg in 2 weeks. Love the European weekenders, some of the music can get quite funky at certain places which isn't really my taste but overall I always have a ball. Mark C
  19. Keele is now branded as "The New Torch" or summit like that. WTF is that all about?
  20. We may ask you to come out of retirement NCFC!! otbc
  21. OMO is for facebookers. Soul sourcers use the quality stuff - OVO Mark C
  22. I was about to switch off when the message "Warrington Parr Hall" came up. Mmmmmmm I thought, that was a really tasty All-Nighter in the 80s, a real mix of music and so worth the 5 hour odd journey each way. Then it flashed up "100% Oldies" and I groaned. Not again Mark C
  23. Had a quiet one this weekend - making up for it the rest of the month : 12/9/15. RUGBY - Brilliant, bloody brilliant - great dance floor 19/9/15. BACKSTREET! - My local event in Norwich, new venue - bring it on 26/9/15. 100 CLUB - Anniversary night - gonna be packed like sardines - superb Mark C
  24. HI, Wonder if any kind people out there could help, I'm holding a charity Northern Soul night on Sat, September 19th (see events) to celebrate the 11th anniversary of a kidney transplant. All proceeds are going to Addenbrookes hospital where my operation took place in 2004. I'm looking for some raffle prizes for the night, so any donations would be very gratefully accepted. Thank You Mark C
