  1. with so many variants under the banner "northern soul" some want rare soul, some oldies, crossover etc trying to attract a big enough crowd to cover the costs. its hard to get the right formula but its the people on the dance floor that payed to be entertained and as its the djs "JOB" to keep the customers happy or no punter equals shit night and eventual closure. if it was as easy u could put a top 500 cd on have no dj and be quids in but its not its takes a good ear and knowledge to keep them entertained and return again to the venue
  2. i remember Roosevelt grier - in my tenement being played out and about in the 90s . hows discovery was it? great tune
  3. the bloke sounds hammered
  4. like the post on here some people had multiple cards but each one had a new membership number.
  5. i think sooty has a fair point its like everything on the scene its experienced through their eyes, some just dance all night ,some stand in record bars talking vinyl. each to there own but this is why the movie wasn't everybody's cup of tea as it wasn't how they saw it. i like sooty own incite into how he remembers the 90s. especially the tunes that were only certain regions fair play to him a much respected member of the northern scene. i always enjoyed his spots at events he DJ
  6. i paid £40 at bradford for mine and thought i paid to much. them were the days
  7. the blue jays - depends on your point of view is one of the songs big in the 90s. still goes down great today as well
  8. and definitely added to many a journey with your lyrics mick. great days wouldn't change a thing
  9. 100% agree been at a dance event and we had one of the top djs at that time Jeremy healey and he had just turned up to do a spot and after 30 mins the atmosphere went flat a few of us talked and decided to put another dj on in his place which he wasn't happy about but it rescued the night an the punters went home happy. in any type of repeat event allnighter or soul night if the punters aint happy the aint gonna spend there hard earned money if they not being entertained.
  10. these djs such as pete tong and carl cox when they play a set its takes the crowd on a journey.if you havent seen or been to the big rave events over here or Ibiza it is a sight to behold working with in this scene for a long time using djs such as carl cox using vinyl and 4 decks it was a great sight but his root was soul and electro music. pete tongs favourite toon to relax to is kenni burke rising to the top great soul tune. when promoters are charging £30+ admission without these djs they wouldnt last after 1 event
