I am very happy to announce that we will also see the return of Shaun Robson to spin his fabulous tunes......So what can I tell you about this chap? Well to me he will always be affectionately known as 'Uncle Nobby'....he started djing many years ago on the CCI rallies in the early/mid nineties for our dear Tony Class, more recently you can find him spinning the vinyl at VCB events , Street Soul, Yeovil Soul Club, Brutons Got Soul and SWSC Woolacombe Rally soul room, he also played for us twice at the Grand before it closed.....a real crowd pleaser!

The return of the Ashton Ukrainian continues into 2022 and we're hoping for another great installment.
If you haven't been before here's a potted history from our very own Chris Churm:
The club was originally based at the  Dukinfield Masonic hall, starting well in January 2017  attended by around 100 guests. Resident DJs were Brian Lester, Chris Churm and Chris Penn.
The venue was great with a large dance floor  and ran until May 2017 when it moved to the Ukrainian Club, a slightly smaller venue (capacity 130) perfect the type of night we were trying to run delivering a mix of lesser known, rare and under played soul; a bit of everything.
The  first date  was June 2017 and was a  great night musically. January 2020 was the 3rd anniversary with guests Phil wainwright and Alex Jones,  respected collector/ DJs to entertain us with their fantastic collections and they were superb, and it was one of our best nights.
Following that in Feb 2020  Les Harrison (one of our regular DJs) and Geoff Stubbs of Stockport were our guests and were excellent as usual .
I must  thank Les Harrison and sue  who were at our first night in 2017 and have only missed the odd one when he has been booked to DJ at Culcheth and our dates unfortunately clashed . He has also helped us to sort the gremlins in the sound system on a few occasions.
Sadly  Brian Lester  who used to play some great tracks decided to bow out from the scene  and our other original DJ maestro Chris Penn moved to the  north east, he  will be missed ,but he has assured us he will be back to annoy us from time to time to DJ for us. .
Here is a list of some of the guys and girls that have played for us and have all taken part in the spirit of our humble Ukrainian club soul evening.

As we all know  in March  2020 (just as our guests  Simon Ingham and Mick Howard  were ready to  DJ for us) the pandemic struck and everything stopped but the restart will pick up where we left off and  Simon alongside Mick will be our first guests, hopefully we can bounce back .
Post pandemic the club have informed us that for the night to continue it will have to be a Saturday night event, ironically that is what we first wanted and we think could be better for everyone so keep an eye on the soul source calendar for future instalments.
We hope everyone is well and can’t wait to see you all again.

The music that refuses to die! Returns to the Stanwick Hotel! Northern Soul keeps on burning at the, ‘This is Northern Soul in Northants’ event on 19th February 2022. It’s hard to believe we are into our 8th year of promoting Soul events at this fantastic venue.  After the awful lockdown period we are so excited to be back! There is a new way guaranteeing your space on the dance floor! Buy your tickets on line at or you can still pay on the door (subject to availability)  
The Venue; The Stanwick Hotel is an award winning privately owned boutique hotel situated in the heart of rural east Northants. The main function room has a fantastic beech wood large dance floor (ideal for dancers). There is ample parking and food available. Rooms are available to book if you are travelling to the event. Why not make a weekend of it! The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the beautiful Stanwick Lakes Nature reserve and activity centre and less than 10 minutes from one of the newest shopping complexes in the UK Rushden Lakes which has many top brand retailers situated within.
The team; behind the event are Jem Brittin, Len Dopson, Steve Scotney & the latest addition local Soul fan Paul Hunter. Between Len & Jem over a 25 year period theypromoted some of the best attended Soul Nights in the UK, in the county of Northants. Len staged the much loved ‘Embankment’ Soul Nights in Wellingborough from the mid 90s to the mid 00s. Jem was one of the founder promoters of The Pembo Soul Nights (Pemberton Centre) Rushden and theoriginator of The Soul in the Bowl nights Rushden, both these events featured Len as co promoter. I’m sure many will remember the legendary ‘Len’s Den room’ at the original Soul In The Bowl Nights. Steve joined the team about 7 years ago and along with Jem promoted ‘The Snooks’ Raunds Soul Nights back in 2014, as well as regularly DJing Steve is hands on behind the scenes with the technical stuff and equipment.Paul is a Northants lad who has been into the music since the mid 1970s. He is a regular attendee of nights up and down the country and is passionate about promoting ‘This is Northern Soul’ in Northants and beyond!
The Music & Sound; Jem & Len’s era’s on the scene started at different times but also crossed over. Jem started his journey in the 1970s ‘Golden era’ of Wigan Casino etc. while Len Started out during the ‘Second wave’ 100 Club etc. during the late 80s/ early 90s. So musically they are inspired by those times. Predominately you will hear most of Northern Soul tunes you know and love at the event but also be prepared to be pleasantly surprised by some inclusions in the DJ sets. We will also feature specially selected guest DJ’s that fit in with our ethos of entertaining the crowd and importantly keeping the dance floor busy! All music is on vinyl format, played on the industry standard Technics 1210 decks through the most up to date top quality sound system. We are confident that you will hear the music we all love in the finest fidelity!

I have great pleasure in welcoming London’s amazing ALENA ARPELS to the HBS turntables bringing her deep collection of Boogie, Funk, Deep Disco and Jazz-Funk vinyl rarities to the Crofters dance floor.
Collecting rare records and DJing for over 15 years, Alena enjoys regular sets at Spiritland, Brilliant Corners, Supermax, Brixton's famous Prince of Wales and many more. Alena is also a frequent guest at many of the European soul weekenders.
Many of you are probably already aware that Alena recently put together a compilation for Dave Lee’s Z Records called ‘Under The Influence’, the excellent series gives a platform to dusty-fingered collectors favourite tunes and here her deep knowledge and love for the music shines through showcasing some incredible music. Alena is indeed in esteemed company; for previous releases in the popular series featured diggers such as Red Greg, Paul Phillips, James Glass, Nick The Record, Sean P, Faze Action and Winston and Bianchi. 
This is not the first time she has DJ’d here in Bristol; as back in 2011 I booked Alena (and Jamie C) to play at Hot Buttered Soul alongside myself and Alex Seal (my defunct record collecting buddy) at The Bank (pre-Love Inn) and to memory it was a pretty amazing night. But that was 11 years ago, so it’s high time we had a proper reunion and what better place than the Crofters Rights backroom!
